I know this is kind of a newbie question but i was wondering if you can take a thridmember from the front a crusier and put it in the rear cruiser axle. Their is a locker in the front third that i would like to have in the rear and it would be a lot less trouble just to switch the thirds.

Just remember the rear axles use "C" clips. The front axles don't. Make sure the locker is compatible with the clips (not all are).

Stock 3rds are interchangable.

yeah, you can definitely do this. About a year ago, i switched mine, so i should be good for another 360k miles, right?

I'll be using the 80s front Hi-Pinion in my rover housing up front with the RD23 ARB...Given the fact that BOTH front and rear Rover housings are identical, Is there anything wrong in me doing the same with the rear? (axles are identical as well)...is there a weakness to using a hi-pinion in the rear? (oiling issues)?

Toy 3rds in a Rover housing??? Any pics? The reverse cut is not as strong as the reg. cut, but it is marginal... Never heard of Cruiser 3rds in Rover housing... is this a common swap?

cruiseroutfit...

People have been doing this in Australia for quite some time now. The 8" toy housing fits perfectly in the Rover one, and enables us to move up to 30 spline axles, Longfields, Toy R&P (which are far stronger by design - and cheaper)...so benefits are quite there.

I know that in the front I need an 80 front since they all come Hi-Pinion and I need that to clear the oil pan. As for the rear, I was thinking of going in that direction as well, however, i'll be on the weak side of the R&P and I may starve the Pinion bearing from Oil...

Hence my query :D

Check the mini truck board on using a hipinion in the rear. I think its a no-no due to oiling issues at street/hiway speeds. Search...
