I got a project 82 Bronco for cheap, I dont know the year of the block. The owner bolted a random head on the engine, and now it has two different heads of different years. The problem is it POURS coolant from head/intake since they dont line up right.
I was thinking of getting 2 salvage heads and a matching intake.

where are you located? I have a set of 302 heads i've been trying to get rid of fora while.
sounds like the previous owner used a pre-77 351W head. the water paseges to the intake are not compatible. At a glance the heads might look simular but are not.

I had a problem with a set of gaskets on my 351. I think they were for a newer 351. They had small slits cut in the ends near the water ports. No matter how I put them on one of the slits were exsposed causing a coolant leak. Went and got a set of gaskets without any slits and no mre leak.

you guys know your stuff
yea the gaskets dont sit quite right. I installed the intake five times and it leaked from a different place each time. good times.
Dave C, I'm in Virginia, shipping would kill the deal. Thanks though :)
I'm hoping that a matching set of 2heads+intake would still bolt to the block.

look for an early 80's mustang, it's got a set of decent heads and a factory aluminum intake, which looks to be almost the equivalent of a edelbrock performer. "Supposedly" you can grind down the smog bumps in the exhaust ports to get about 20 extra hp, but thats just what i've heard

the year of the engine and heads are easy to find/figure out
find the casting numbers. on the block, it'll be back by the starter, on the heads, I bleive its under the valve cover
First digit:
c-60's
d-70's
e-80's
f-90's
then the second digit will be a number.. say, C9-1969 E7- 1987
any intake will bolt to any heads, you just gotta have matching gaskets for the heads..
the smog bump grinding.. won't quite net 20hp, by itself, but every little bit helps..You could probably net ~20hp if you went through and gasket matched every port, removed the smog bumps, and did a bit of smoothing..

there is also a casting on the bottems of the heads, where they stick out over the valley.. Get a set of E7TE heads and hog the bumps out the exhaust ports a little.. they will flow.. Look for them on 87+ trucks and mustangs.. avoid the E6SEs thoug..

I just put a set of mustang e7's on my 85 302. I don't think you need to hog out the smog bumps, they are less than half the size of the ones in the e5 heads I took off.

C9OE'S AND D0OE'S are good finds too :D They're 351W heads though so you'll need shouldered head bolts or bushings to reduce the bolt hole. You'd have to get new rockers too, they're studded.. Pretty sure they out-flow the E7's but they're gettin kinda rare/expensive.
