: Any one make a suspension lift for a 91 pick up?
k5 krawler 50 05-03-2004, 10:54 PM My buddy just got an isuzu pick up, and its a 91 and he wants to put a suspension lift on it. Its a 4wd, and has ifs up front. All he has been able to find is a body lift. Also does any one know were to find pre runner style fiber glass fenders for the same truck? One more thing if any one has done a SFA on a isuzu pick up i would like to know see some pics and how you did it if thats not a problem. Thanks alot. Cory.
Welcome to the board :flipoff2:
Here a couple links you can check out in your search for zu stuff

Calmini is kinda pricey don't know what your budget is......TrooperRS on the board here is the owner of Independent4x and he can generally hook you up with what ever you need. SEARCH a little and you can find all kinds of ideas for lifts from mild 1.5" and fender trims to full on SAS's.
Urban_Assault 05-04-2004, 07:58 AM No one makes a set of fiberglass fenders for us bastardized Isuzu's so you kinda are SOL'd.On the other hand you could do the Amigo fender swap and get a wider look to it.
Lifting is easy...talk with Matt(Trooper RS) and all your lifting dreams come true....if you only dream of 3"...LOL.
In the SAS post pics thread there is a Isuzu P'up with a SFA.
ZiggyStardust 05-04-2004, 02:41 PM I'm in the same boat as you buddy. I bought a 1990 4x4 pickup a few weeks ago and have taken her 4 wheelin' twice and its affirmative: I need at least 3 inches and 33" mud tires as opposed to my stock setup with 31x10.50's. Not trying to highjack your thread here but I'm looking for the same help too. Anything that performs nicely and isn't $800 like the Calmini setup would be nice. I don't like the idea of using the kit from independent4x to get 3" if cranking the torsion bars is going to throw off my camber. Any advice would be appreciated.
Independent4x 05-04-2004, 02:52 PM I don't like the idea of using the kit from independent4x to get 3" if cranking the torsion bars is going to throw off my camber. Any advice would be appreciated.
typically to address the negative camber issue associated w/ torsion bar adjustment...........guys are relocating the upper ball joint under the upper arm........and using a spacer that we make. this spreads the upper and lower arms apart by the thickness of the ball joint "ears" (1/4") and the spacer (1/4") for an overall gain of 1/2".
with this set up you should be able to get the alignment pretty damn close if not right on, especially on the older trucks from 87-92 ish.
that IFS front is fairly strong and pretty tightly designed...............there are a few twaks you can do but you have to take it for what it's worth. if you really want to open up the envelope.............you need to then be thinking axle swap.
oh and welcome to the board :flipoff2:
ZiggyStardust 05-04-2004, 09:51 PM Thanks for the welcome TrooperRS, I sent you a PM, hopefully you can help me out in the future.
k5 krawler 50 05-04-2004, 09:53 PM Well i talked to my friend and he really wants to do the SAS, but his dad is thinking that is not worth it unless the kit has instructions and shit like that, so does the kit that independent4x sell have instructions? Also if he goes spring over will it clear for 33s. He said he wants 33s maybe 35s, but i told him i dont think the little 4 banger could handle it unless u re gear? What gears do u think for 35s or just stick with 33s? Thanks for the help.
k5 krawler 50 05-04-2004, 10:04 PM this truck will also be a daily driver.. if u wanted to know..
k5 krawler 50 05-04-2004, 10:37 PM One more thing, how much lift will the sas with the 2 inch wagoneer springs mounted on top of the axle? What kind of lift for the rear to make it level? Is it possible that the Independent4x fab shop builds a solid axle swap for a full width chevy axle, cuz he has hook ups to free chevy fronts if its possible to put one under the isuzu, so if you guys build a full width kit how much for it? He would really like to put full width axles on it if you guys make a kit for it. Thanks agian.
k5 krawler 50 05-05-2004, 07:33 AM I was looking at the picture for the stage one sas, and i was wondering how do u mount the front of the springs to the frame, i only saw to hangers and two shackles so i am a little confused, please help. Thanks.
Urban_Assault 05-05-2004, 07:56 AM If instructions are needed for a SAS....might want to consider cranking the torsion bars.
Doing a spring overe with the Rancho 44044's you're looking at about 6" to 8" in left(not sure about the thikness of the axle off the top of my head). You have to build out the front for the spring hangers.Check on the Independent4x site at his project RS pics and you can see some great photo's for the swap.
Independent4x 05-05-2004, 07:57 AM this is really not the place for me to discuss product specifics......i have not taken the time to buy my "yellow vendor's star" (planning to here shortly moderators)
therefore in order to play by the forum rules...............i would need to go into specifics of my products off the board.............so, on the phone or PM or e-mail.
thanks
One more thing, how much lift will the sas with the 2 inch wagoneer springs mounted on top of the axle?
This really depends on where you locate the spring mounts and how you run your shackles. If you are talking about rancho 44044's when you say 2in waggys then you could probably get a considerable amount of lift depending on how you set your stuff up. Independent4x does sell a axle swap kit it is based on the waggy d44 IIRC, but if you get ahold of Matt I am sure he can make you a kit for what ever axle you want
not worth it unless the kit has instructions and shit like that, so does the kit that independent4x sell have instructions?
I Assume you mean the SAS kit. No it doesn't have instructions because it requires torching off the old IFS and other welding and modifications to the frame. Everyone does this a little different depending on what tools and equipment they have avaliable. SAS is a big modification not saying you can't do it or that its overly complicated but it does take time and mechanical knowledge.
He said he wants 33s maybe 35s, but i told him i dont think the little 4 banger could handle it unless u re gear? What gears do u think for 35s or just stick with 33s? Thanks for the help.
You would definately have to regear for 35's I don't know which motor you have other than its a 4 banger so you would probably want to run 5.38 gears which are also at independent4x. Also if you do run 35's be prepared to break stuff because you will be pushing the limits of the IFS with that tire size. You will also probably have to run a small amount of body lift with your suspension lift in order to clear 35's. that or do major fender trimming/firewall bashing and run wide backspacing on your rims to keep from rubbing the frame in the front. If I were you I would wheel your IFS for awhile see how you like it then when you start breaking stuff and want more travel go with the SAS :flipoff2: good luck with what ever you decide to do.
EDIT: I see TrooperRS and Urban Assault beat to it on some of that
StinkBug 05-05-2004, 11:47 PM LMAO, i just went to look at the axle swap section and realized he was usin a pic of my truck on there. :D Just from your posts i'm wondering if you have any idea what doing an SAS entails. I'm not flaming you here, but it doesn't seem like you know enough about this process to do it without a LOT of research and learning. As was said above, everyone does theres differently and there really aren't any set in stone instructions on how to do it. If you want something that comes with a list of instructions, you should really be lookin at the IFS kits.

k5 krawler 50 05-07-2004, 10:06 PM I was just tryin to help out a friend, and his dad is pretty gay i guess when it comes to stuff like this, i dont need the instructions, his dad is the one who said he needed them, so he could look it over to make sure I did everything correctly, which i thought was screwed up. Its wierd cuz, his dad has seen me weld before, and knows that i am pretty good at it, but i guess thats just how he is. My friend has decided on a sas, and has a toyota front axle so i think with that kit from independent4x we are gonna go ahead and do it, and i will make up some stupid ass instructions for his dad on the comp to make it look professional. Thanks for the help everyone.
