i have 3 sets of aux lights and a cb, all are wired into my fuse box, the switches power comes from the fuse box, everything was working fine then one of my switches started to burn and smoke, so i unplugged it and took the fuse that it was connected to out and was melted, what the hell happened? how should i wire my lights now?

Use a relay. The switch you used isnt rated for that kind of current.

i've got a relay this is how all my lights are set up

lights to a relay, battery to relay, ground relay, switch to relay, groudn switch, power source to switch

and why would the fuse melt as well?

On your relay there will be numbers (30, 85,86,87,87a) where do you have each one run too?

if i rewired my lights so that the switch gets it power from the battery can i just use one wire for the 3 switches?

the relay is hooked up right, i double checked it with the directions that KC sent me, i went to the car parts place locally and they said that the wire i used was 2 thin that's why it all just heated up like that, they said i should use like a 10 gage power wire and 14 gage for the rest, is that right?

should i even use a relay? should i ground the lights to the - terminal on the battery or does it even matter?i'm going to have my wiring like this

You should be using at least 14 guage wiring. You must use a relay unless you are using a heavy duty switch rated at at least 20 amps for 2 lights. Those lights (kc spot?) will draw around 6-8 amps each. The switch (the lit one that came with the light) is probably only rated for about 3-4 amps if not less. What size wiring did you use?

i used 16 gage for most of the wiring, it looks like i'm gonna have to redo all the wiring, wild, do you have aol or aim, thanx

nope. Make sure you use wire loom to protect the wires and tie strap everything out of the way of heat(manifold, rad, etc.) and that you use fuses instead of just going to the battery.

you mean an inline fuse or fuse panel?

If you get your power from the battery add an inline fuse like your drawing.

what amp fuse would you recommend? 20amp?

20 amp for 2 lights should be good.
