Ive got about a unit and a half of oak 2x6's. All are 8 feet long. They are rough cut. The ones on the top of the unit are warped out like mad but the ones down lower are good and straight. I'm thinking i'd drop off 40 boards or so at the local high school wood shop and have them planed down smooth. Then using them to re-deck my 16 foot trailer. Good idea? I haul more than just cars on my trailer. Sometimes its rigs with no axles, junk, steel, etc...

Should be able to put up with the abuse, just will make for one heavy deck.

Kinda of a waste to use oak on a trailer, but if it's free... why not? :D

Oak is plenty strong enough but with the value of oak it should be pretty easy to either sell or trade it and get treated 2x6's the length you need.

Why plane them..... the trailer sales lot around here use rough cut oak if you specific an oak floor. Doesn't make any sense to plane them down smooth if your going to be dragging axles, junk and other shit around on them them.

I wanted to plane them just to make sure they are super square. they have been curing for about 6 years and some, even deep in the unit, have warped and canted just a bit. Planing would make them more managable.
