Just get the highest tooth count for a metal cutting blade.

Flat fender or TJ flares?

TJ flares for me. Anyone tried a nibbler? I'm actually thinking of marking the body with a marker and taking it in to the body shop to have them do it right. Don't want to booger it up and hafta cover it up. I'm worried about rust too. What's the best way to trim for TJ flares?

TJ flares =)
I've been meaning to do it forever. I washed it good yesterday to have the body clean to do it today but I ended up waking up to late and tended to things around the house. Hopefully I can do it tomorrow if Iget some time at work.

I did TJ flares not to long ago (well the rear) I just pulled off the old ones, pulled out the innner plastic wheel well thing. Then possitioned the TJ flare how i wanted it and marked it with a pencil. I made sure i was not going to hit any major joints and then i cut. I used a sawzall with a 24 tooth blade. Cut it like butter.

I then filed it down. didnt paint it but i will. I then lined it up again marked for holes. DRilled and used some sheet metal screws in it. Worked great.

The top of my flare is 3" from the top of the body.

I then cut teh plastic liner with my knive and reinstalled it.

I plan to do the fronts sometime.

Nibblers kick ass, hard to mess-up unless you go too fast. I did TJ flares on my buddies YJ w/ one, not to effective. Too many double-wall areas for a nibbler, they cut like butter on the single wall sections though. It kicked ass on the XJ!

Well, I used a 4" grinder for my rear flares, and for my front hackfender job :) It was easy.. the hardest part was getting the holes for the rear flares marked... because I marked them way up high on the flare so it would stay tight onto the body. When you do the rear flares, pull out the inner fender. You won't be able to cut much if you don't.

i found a guy that makes icecream vans, and florist delivery vans. he is going to chop my zj fenders this summer with something he calls aa zipper, for taking roofs off. he said if i bring them to him marked where i want them cut, he'll do it for free, and says it should take less than 15 minutes. just food for thought.
