: 1990 8.8?
90 Bronco....needs a rear-end 8.8
Will a full size F150 8.8 be the same, I would think so?
If so can anyone tell me what years will be a direct bolt in?
TIA
GWT
If you want the RABS sensor, '87 thru '96
If you don't want the RABS sensor, '83ish thru '96
Jrod-13 05-06-2004, 05:52 PM depending on what year they had the VSS sensor in with the abs sensor in the rearend, either 90 or 91 was the first year for it, that will also paly a role in what you need..
personaly, unless you need the VSS back there, I would do a 9" from a 70's ford, cheaper, stronger, cheaper parts, and bolts right in..
Bluebeast393cid 05-06-2004, 06:53 PM He wony have rear ABS if he does the 9inch. The 8.8 from the correct year will go right in as they are the same as the Bronco. The only thing to look for is to make sure that it has the correct gears in it and that they are fine and in good shape.
Thanks for the info men!
It does have the abs gear bolted to the carrier,
so 1990 was the 1st year for abs?
BTW this thing blew metal right out the cover, everything is trashed.
This anit my truck, just tryin to help a friend out here.
So if the abs is left unpluged will the dash light stay on?
Thanks again!
Jrod-13 05-06-2004, 08:32 PM well, the ford rear ABS is has been a pile of shit since day one, I doubt it even works anymore on a 90' I've never seen a ford truck older than 94' that it still works on.. you really need to get under the truck, and look if you have a speedo cable going to the back of the T-case. If you do, a 9" will be fine. If you don't, putting in something without a VSS in the rearend will make your speedo not work, and casue tranny issues if you have a auto..

Try 87 for the abs in the rear diff.
Jrod-13 05-06-2004, 10:41 PM er, maybe I wasn't using the right terminology, I know they have have ABS since mid 80' or so, but in wasn't till around 90' or 91' that they started using that same sensor to run the speedo and other shit, othat than abs.
demonranger 05-07-2004, 06:45 AM I've neverseen a ford truck older than 94' that it still works on..
Count my '90 ranger DD as still working tested it this morning on the way to work well technically it's a 91 rear from a explorer. the 7.5 worked till I upgraded.
So if ABS is important then it is possible to have it work but yes many do fail
bobbywalter 05-07-2004, 06:59 AM i am amazed if it really works....but since its hard to get regular rear brakes to lock...i am not gonna be too amazed. antilocks with drums is a joke. but since the speedo on the 90 may be electric, you need to make sure there is a vss, or a cable and vss in the t case. there may not be a cable and just a vss, if thats the case get the bolt in 9in. they dont eat spiders like the 8.8.
i have busted quite a few 8.8's in my ranger and have smoked an arb back there too so if he has power and or tires on that thing going with a 9 will reduce the spider failures that usually puts my carriers through the caps. if he he runs the 8.8 tell em to truss it and get a load bolt cover. or a detroit locker..(full carrier detroit) runnin a load bolt cover with the detroit makes the 8.8 pretty reliable, with proper trussing it will really take an ass whoopin up to 456 gears.

'92 was the first year. This is not a concern for him. His rear exciter ring is only for RABS.
so 1990 was the 1st year for abs?

Thats what I want to hear :smokin:
Also this is just a DD that needs to get rolling.
With a 9in will there be any issues with the yoke or drive shaft lenght,
E-cables?
I got tabs on a real cheap 9 but it's a 3 hr round trip.

Jrod-13 05-07-2004, 09:33 AM I used the ebrake cables from the 77' rearend, worked just fine. driveshaft length was fine for me, the only real issue was I had to change my rear joint from a 1330, to a 1330/1350 combo unit.
82F100SWB 05-08-2004, 12:07 AM Brake hardware is the same between an 80-up 9"(haven't dealt with older,) and an 8.8", backing plates, everything are the same.
In my 82 F100, I at one point swapped in an 8.8", and, had to build a new driveshaft that was 3" different than the existing one, don't ask me which way it had to go tho...
We just swapped from an 8.8 to a 9" in my buddy's 84 F150 and had no issues at all however.
If your rear end currently has a flange with a 4 bolt mounting, you may run into issues there. No experience with that tho.
