: 86 Ford F150 specs
Merace19 05-06-2004, 08:02 PM I am getting a 86 Ford F150 from someone next week and i want to know what kind of equipment it has under it. The guy i am getting it from has no clue and it is 250 miles away from me so i cannt just look myself. I know it has 5.8liter engine and automatic trans. What type axles, transfer case, and stuff like that do they normally come with? And are they Worthy?
Hoxviii 05-06-2004, 08:28 PM Rear will be an 8.8, probably with some pathetic gear like a 3.08
Front will be a TTB D44
TC will most likely be a BW 1356
AT-could be a C6, C4, AOD. none are "bad" units, but the C6 is hellishly strong, has no OD
Something else to look out for on an '86 ford is the actual build date. late 86 through 87 uses a unique brake and hub setup that is exensive to replace hard parts for. i don't know the exact date of the cahnge, but it's something to look into.
All and all it'll be a decent truck so long as it was maintained.

Jrod-13 05-06-2004, 10:57 PM 86" F-150?
351 H.O. 4bbl, when running right, they run like a raped ape( I had a 86' just like that hang with my dads 00' F-150 with a 5.4 till 90mph) tranny is a C-6, T-case should be a NP 208, but might be a BW13-45. axles are a ttb44/8.8 99% of the time they are a 3.54/3.55
Put a body lift, weld the rear, and some 35's, and you will have a faily cable a rig, that you will be hard pressed to break. remember, half ton axles are half ton axles are half ton axles... not a huge difference between them all.
bobbywalter 05-07-2004, 07:09 AM unless he swapped it in...there wont be a c4 behind a 351 in anything...maybe a 2wd f100 with a 302 or 300 i6.
 seems i remember a v6 with a c5 somewhere though..
Merace19 05-07-2004, 08:20 AM I heard or read that the 9" rear can be in a 86 also?
Jrod-13 05-07-2004, 09:41 AM possible, but not really likely... They were done with the 9' around 83' or so, for the most part... allthough this is ford we are talking about, so it's hard to say...
every 86' I've looked under had a 8.8, except one. But when my buddy got that one, it also had a 91' roller H.O. motor in it, with all the standard truck efi stuff on it.. so obviously someone had been swapping... Whether or not the 9" under that was factory, we don't know.
DRKelly 05-07-2004, 08:12 PM I think the 9" was available until maybe 87-88, but was rare at that point. I originally thought the 9" ended around 83 too, but my 85 Bronco came with a 9". The vast majority, if not all should have the 3.55 gears.

bremen242 05-10-2004, 07:11 PM the tcase will most likely be a NP208. Easy to figure out, if the rear of the case is ribbed, its a BorgWarner, if its smooth, NP208.
9" came up to 86, however most rears are 8.8 from 84+. V8 generally got 3.50/3.55 gears, I6 4x4s are almost all 3.08s.
No 80+ truck came with a C4. 3.8s came with C5s. Probably a C6. I've never seen an AOD in a truck, I've heard of people who have had them, but I don't think many made it behind a 5.8 until after 86.
the weird hub setup was in 87 until 88.5. I've never heard of them in an 86, but anything is possible..
