small electric fan questions.
Ok guys I am going to mount a small fan behind my Radio. The reason is I like to run my heat threw the top bents and defrost and after a while the radio gets hot. Before we get into it I know there is no wiring problem with the radio. It only does this in the winter when I run the heat.
Ok I have 2 fans and will be using one of them. They both came out of a computer. One is a CPU cooling fan the other is a power supply cooling fan. Both rated at 12 vdc. The CPU fan the smaller of the 2 is rated at 0.07a the other larger of the 2 is rated at 0.13a. I am going to do this on a 97 Cherokee. Ok here are the questions. The wire attached to these fans is real thin so I should not really need to go to a much thicker wire since I will tap into my cig lighter for power. I don’t use the lighter and it’s a short run then. I want to put in a switch so I can turn it off at will. Do you think I need a relay? And do you think I can use the same quage wire? I guess I can use the wire since I pulled it out of the computer so the length has not changed.
Thanks

No you don't need a relay. Yes you can use the same gauge wire. I would add a 1/4 amp fuse in line as close to the power source as possible so the thin line won't cause a fire if it ever shorts. The thin gauge wire might burn up if shorted instead of blowing the factory fuse.

I planned on adding a fuse.

Why add a fan if the problem is that hot air is ALREADY being blown behind the stereo with the a/c FAN. Seems like a waste of time.

There is no hot air being blown back there its radiant heat off the air ducts. I am going to put some insulation and put the fan to help get some cool air in there.
