OK I did a search and didn't find an answer. I am curious what is the signicicane of a reverse cut axle or reverse cut gears? Are they any better over the normal cut ones?

Reverse cut gears are used in a high pinion axle. Reverse cut gears are stronger in a front high pinion application going foward and in a rear high pinion application going in reverse.

Okay, I have a question about this also.

If I would take a Ford(driverside drop) flip it to a passenger-side drop and rotate the knuckles 180 degrees, That would make it Hi-pinion and reverse cut correct.

No, that would make you fried bearings.

Reverse cuts are built that way. There are oil passages in the casting of a diff that are effective when used the way it was inteded. You either have a rev or std cut, one can't be used as the both.

It would also make your axle run backwards.

I'm beginning to think this needs to be put in the Bible. There is no way to make a low pinion axle into a high pinion. Unless your talking about putting a high pinion third member into a 9" housing, but that doesn't count.

yet another problem with reverse cut gears for a 60

5.38 is max

not like the 7.17 available for the regular 60

suposing this is a trail rig only...made for slow rockcrawling do you think that you could run std gears in a reverse cut app (backwards (would be like driving in reverse ???

Thanks for explaing that to me:flipoff2, Im not a newbie to this( just a newbie to the board), I just havent ever delt with Hi-pinion axles. I was just guessing on how they are made.

Are the housing that different. Is the carrier for the reverse cut also different??

Here is how to make a pass side High Pinion Dana 44.

Just to let you know, Mike said he wouldn't do this again. Look at his Dana 60 article, he went a different route.
