I have a 2002 1/2 ton & want to put 305/70-16's on it. Anyone know if they will rub with stock suspension ? I'll be towing my Jeep with it & don't want to lift it - but still want a bigger tire for sand dunes & mild trail exploration. I put a hole in a sidewall when the truck was less than 2 weeks old - so the Firestones aint cuttin it.
thanks
sorry for the stupid newby question:beer:

According to the fitment guide i used it says that with stock height the largest you can fit is a 285/75-16. I have that size on my 90 z71 and i offroad it frequently and it does well. I have the new super swamper trxus m/t's these are a great tire and have a thick sidewall with large sidebiters. These run about 130 a piece from national tire and wheel. I have seen a guy in the next town with you truck running some 33-12.5-15's on some wide aftermarket rims and they seemed to fit but the torsion bars were cranked and the tires didnt look like they had much room to move. Id say cut the fenders but its a new truck and its a tow rig that sees street use that you want to look decent.

My dad had a 96 Z-71 and put the Bfg m/t on there, 285/75r16, which is a 33/10.5r16, and we never had them rub, a friend of his has a 98 Z-71 and put the 305/70r16(33/12.50r16)and they rub a bit under travel, don't know how hard he was going when they rubbed, but for street use they didn't rub, and he hasn't done anything to the suspension. This were with the older body style so don't know with the new one if the 305 would work but the 285 should work. Are you lookin for the 33 inch size are do you want to extra width of the tire??

Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure either how much difference there is from the '88 - '98 bodys. I'm looking for a wider all terrain tire that's more durable than the Firestones seem to be. I drive fairly hard off-road (Jeep for the slow stuff) and use all the suspension, so if they can rub - they will. Maybe I can get a shop to test fit one & cycle the suspension somewhat & see how it looks.

They'll rub on the street...Discount Tire put 305's on my uncle's 99 Z71 when it was stock and they rubbed. Ended up with 285's, which is what I put on our Z71...
Good luck!

Thanks hankd. Guess I'll try the 285's.
Do you know if your uncle had stock backspacing on the rims?

I don't know for sure...all I know is they were American Racing wheels (the popular ones)...
