Looking in the paper and came up with a ford 9 inch out of a 1986 ford bronco for 100 Canadian. Are all the 9s the same.

Are all the 9s the same.Simple answer: not even close. probably more variations to this axle than almost any other(maybe 12 bolt has more)all sorts of housings, widths, bearing sizes, carriers, 3rd members, axles, spline counts, brakes etc.

Okay, so the centre sections do not run the same hudge R/P with the massive tubes. I am looking for a couple of cheap 9s for possible hybrid axle in the future.

yup , 9's have defferent carriers depending on gear and axle size and spline count can differ. Brakes will depend on wether it is from car , van , or truck. axle size and beraing size and spline count depend on what year car , van , or truck and what model . Like heavier models had heavier stuff. 86" Bronco could be a good one with easy swap to disc brakes. Need to know gear ratio and if dealer had tow pkg. or HD option that year that would have given an upgrade to the axle with big bearings and higher spline count. gear ratio will let you know if you have the right carrier to go higher or if that will be a cost also...
