I ended up with a 88 toyota v6 for free. the only catch is, it had caught fire. what had happened was that the fuel return line bursted onto the distributor cap and caught fire. the fire was pretty small. The fire destroyed the coil, dist, as well as the mass air flow sensor and intake assembly. so I got parts from a junkyard off of a 91 toyota pick-up v6. all the parts fit except some of the wires didnt match in color but I am pretty sure they are in their right places. In any case, after timming it right I cannot get it to start. it will almost start when you prime the throttle body with gasoline, but only a moderate dieseling of the engine. I am getting fuel to my fuel rail and spark to my plugs but for some reason it wont fire. any idieas? please. =(

Just an idea did you replace every sensor on the intake? Cold start sensor, water temp., BVSV, Reed Valve, EGR. Timming belt has been replaced ? Are all the vacuum lines attached in the proper location ? Also make sure that the mass air flow sensor is a good one I have seen alot of ones from the junk yard that are no good. Hope this helps.

Which sensors can hault the engine from running. From what I have been informed, if the mass air flow sensor is bad, it will run, but not very well. what are all the sensors that could be affected by a fire on the drivers side of the engine bay?
