My friends 83 (22R) brunt out the ignitor and has never run good since

He put a junk yard ignitor in(new=$400) and now it runs but...

The truck is running rich(can smell and see smoke sometimes), revs real slow and Idles real low -600 rpm????????

Its got new plugs and the cap is fine(we think, althoug he wont buy a new one) we adjusted the timing.

on the vacuum advance, I was pulling hoses to check that but when I pull one of them (rear most) it doesnt drop the idle like it does on mine

Dont know what the hell is wrong with it, he is threatening to sell it and I cant let him do that because none of my friends will "get it" like we do with our trucks

Do a bypass on that igniter he got at the yard....instructions are in most toyota manuals...simple task with a condenser....burned my igniter in my 77 fj40 and bypassed it and ran it that way for 7 yrs...until I got a new one..check the book.
