: Scout D44 -- How "Prone" to bending are they?

Well guys,

Like the subject says, I'm wondering exactly how prone to bending these axles are? They've got to better than my D35!

Truth told, my TJ sees mostly street :( but I've got to get a larger axle regardless.

I'll never be doing the ARCA type shit all you hardcore cats are runnin. Just some decent trails and the street here in Oregon. I know once I put gears & a locker of sorts in that D35 shit will start breakin real quick.

So is the SII D44 really gonna be that bad?

Thanks!

From my experiences, they aren't prone to bending. The .188 tubes do make me a bit leery, but a simple truss should calm you down a bit. I've got one going in my XJ just as soon as I spring for some gears.

A friend of mine has a 79 SII with the 345 and he has a VERY heavy right foot. I've seen him punish that D44 more than any should be and it has held up fine. The only broken part on the axle was that stupid trash lock.

I'm sure that somebody here will pipe in about a bent unit though.

Thanks for the info,

sounds like we have the same friend with a scout ;) But he doesn't wheel it really....just rolls it into ditches!

I've ran them under a cj7 and a cj8 with 33 & 35 boggers and a decent v8. If you do alot of wheel stands under power or happen to stand er up on one rear tire, it'll bend!! The axles themselves are very prone to bending and twisting behind a good v8 and good traction. They hold up just fine for most situations, but I can honestly say I can trash one in a weekend with a set of boggers on it. (those damn boggers tear up alot of junk though!) I say if it's mainly a street/mild trail jeep then you'll be happy with it. Who knows, I may just have bad luck with them, but I do have about 3 buddies running the scout rears and ALL of them have wobbly axles from twisting.

Hehe must be, mine wasn't exactly all there when he rolled his into the ditch! Infact he was telling me what a sin it'll be if I put a SII D44 in the rear of my TJ!
