: FJ45 Resurrection
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:32 AM I was hoping Dan would post these pics, but I'm impatient and want to show them off.
Here's a thread from some previous progress pics.

Here's a pic of what he started with...
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:35 AM ok, a pic, really this time... what he started with (engine is in the bed along with tranny and tcase all in pieces)
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:36 AM This was a pic yesterday as his wife and kids got to take the first test drive (all FJ60 running gear)
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:38 AM shot as it drove around the block...
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:40 AM This is the truck he bought for $500, got the FJ60 donor for $900 (parted it and made all that bacK). It had been sitting in a field for over a decade, I think the last time it was registered was some time in the 80s.
Owyhee Jackass 05-10-2004, 12:11 PM Thanks, Ken. I have been too busy here at work to screw off and surf Cruiser-Porn like I normally do.
tornadoalleycruiser 05-10-2004, 12:14 PM Congrats on the first ride in your 45! Wish I could get further than making vroom vroom noises while sitting in mine!
Looking good... So the brakes feel ok after bolting to booster to the firewall?
Owyhee Jackass 05-10-2004, 12:25 PM Braking was awesome, power steering too. My wife said it drove great, she is a tough critic too. She drives an '95 80 series (pampered) and calls my 55 a "stage coach.

Looks great man...hmmm sounds a lot like my wife...although she likens it to the "ice cream" truck...

FredTheMonster 05-10-2004, 04:43 PM Nice work... lets go wheel it!
Owyhee Jackass 05-10-2004, 08:43 PM Nice work... lets go wheel it!
Not quite there yet, it should make it through the parade, but I don't think it will do Carnage yet ;)

mine says it sounds like a trash masher on wheels!
All 60 running gear? Hmm. Show us the power brake hookup. Please :D
Cruiser Ken 05-10-2004, 11:38 PM He took the top of the rib off the firewall and used the 60 booster/master.

Owyhee Jackass 05-11-2004, 07:32 AM I've since cleaned up the firewall where I did the booster install. I will try and get an updated picture of it later this week.

trash masher...nice...I guess they just don't feel the love...
orangefj45 05-11-2004, 10:50 AM awesome! another 45 comes back to life. and it's already in the 45 registry! :D
TJDIV 05-13-2004, 10:54 AM There's nothing better than finding an old dying truck and putting life back in it. Not too mention getting your investment funds back through parts sales.
Good Work.
Owyhee Jackass 05-13-2004, 11:01 AM Thanks. I just dropped it off at the muffler shop this morning.
Owyhee Jackass 05-13-2004, 11:08 AM Here I am a few months back, working on the SOA.

You can't be serious,,,is that thing really being held up with 2x4's? There's not enough money in the world to make me crawl under that

Hello, those are 4x4s. Always use 4x4s on a 4wd, 2x4s are for 2wds. :shaking:
BionicCruiser 05-13-2004, 09:01 PM  Damn, and i am worried mine will come off the jack stands when i'm under it!!!!!

Owyhee Jackass 05-13-2004, 09:59 PM Hey, there is like a Factor of Safety of like 2! If the tall one slips out, the short one will hold...maybe.

If this hasn't been submitted to the Darwin awards website, it should be!
Would have posted sooner, but family had to come and pick me up off the floor after the chair went over backwards!
wngrog 05-14-2004, 04:27 AM THis post sure took a turn away from a great FJ45 with that picture
I was hoping after page 2 we had more shots of the Blue 45!!!
Owyhee Jackass 05-14-2004, 11:46 AM Sorry to divert, I came back from lunch with that picture taped to my monitor, with the caption "Dan hard at work on the strip" and had to post it up.
No new pictures of the 45, work has been kicking my ass for the past two weeks and now they're sending me off to Korea for 19 days. I did manage to get the exhaust done yesterday.
Andre, I love the pizza cutter look. I did get it on the freeway and am not sure I like the "oblong" feel, granted, I don't have any shocks yet.

Just an updated photo with the new Super Swamper TSL Q78-15 tires.
I've got some new window channel felt in the doors. It's pretty tight now. I just have to figure out how to heat-shrink the chain on the tailgate and fix some farmer welds on the tailgate hinges and I think i'll have most of the rattles out of it.
I'm gonna start working on some hard half doors too.
Dan
7FootYeti 05-25-2005, 12:17 PM I'm not worthy
That is one beautiful 45.
Owyhee Jackass 05-25-2005, 12:50 PM Thanks, the picture makes it look nicer than it is...it's an oxidized, dented and surface-rusty POS to most people who see it. Of course the most common statement made by the "uneducated" is "What is that thing?"
GreenPig 05-25-2005, 02:52 PM Nice.
Of course the next expression out of their mouths after "what is it", is do they have any more of them there??? (At least that would be the appropriate response!)
That's a nice project Dan! better than the 80!!
:)
Cruiser Ken 05-25-2005, 05:39 PM It's the shizznit, just look at those chrome wheels.
DHONDAGOD 05-25-2005, 07:30 PM the more i look at these the more im thinkin i should get one.. hmmmm... now how do i break the news to the wife????
nice progress btw....
chris :cool2:
Land Cruiser Junky 05-25-2005, 08:48 PM Congrats on bringing that 45 back to life. Looks great too. Nice job. :smokin:
elminero67 05-25-2005, 09:07 PM looks like he is welding up that pesky leak in the gas tank...
2manycruisers 05-26-2005, 01:15 PM Did you use the FJ-60 springs front and back? Qs are 36" right? I have fj-60 front springs in the front of mine (with s/r), but no motor, and the 38s look small. I'm going to redo to lower it a little, but haven't decided what to do in the back yet. Got any pics of the suspension?
Owyhee Jackass 05-27-2005, 05:21 AM try the link in the first post for more pictures. I just use the 60 springs in the front and they are prety flat after about a year. I kept the stock 45 rears, I might put an over load spring in the back and maybe a sway bar.
