: What tires for HEAVY sand going dually?

I'm finishing up the 4x4 conversion on my dad's motorhome and it's getting time to pick up some tires. I was planning on getting BFG mud terrains but he's thinking all terrains. Now to complicate matters more I have people telling me BFGs won't do so well under a 10,000 pound truck.

The truck has a healthy 440, 727, divorced 205, 60/70 with 4.56s. To start with the diffs will be open but we'll probably put at least a detriot out back once we see how it does.

He uses it mainly to camp on the beach in Mexico and the reasoning for the 4x4 conversion was he used to get hopelessly stuck. He also takes it up to the woods in the summer time but nothing an A/T couldn't handle. Airing down out back will be tough with the duals and with single skinny tires up front I feel good tires will be critical. So what's the best choice? Thanks

How big of a tire can you fit on it? The BFGs will not be enough tire for the weight unless they are at least 35s (guess).

I'm planning on fitting the skinny 33. I think its the 285/75/16. 10,000lbs is a bit heavy but not much. I just found the weigh card and it's 8740lbs dry. With the tanks full 2 people, 2 dogs, gear, and toungue weight of the trailer it's probably damn near 10k.

Thanks

Travis

EDIT: The size I want to run is actually the 255/85/16 they only make it in the mud terrain. How about dual 255s out back and a 285/75/16 up front? Would that be too wide for skinny dually wheels to handle?

If he is mostly going to be in sand get a good tight tread pattern. The mud terrains will just dig, especially with that much weight.
