I'm looking at getting a 20' trailer for the Jeep & quad. Trying to decide between 5200# axles and 6000#. Price difference is $50 per axle.
I haven't been able to find much info about the difference in the axles. The 5200 are 6 hole while 6000 are 8. Can you guys help with the pros/cons or each one?
Thanks.

Biggest difference between the two, the 52 has 3/16" wall tube and the 6 has 1/4" wall tube. Without looking at my books, I'd say you should be able to get both bolt patterns on those axles.

I have 6 lug 5200 lbs, and wish they were 8 like everything else I have. I looked into swapping the hubs/drums when I wanted to go to 16" wheels, but it was way more than the cost of new 16" 6 lug wheels.

Either way it should be plenty of beef even for a FS rig. It you go 8 lug, it may be cheaper to find used wheels with load range E tires. You might even be able to share a spare with your tow rig.

Always over build the axles 6000lbs axles give you that much more braking and the heavier tubed axles if you ever do haul a large load. plus the 8 lug hubs are very appealing

Both axles are identical, except for the wall thickness of the tube. .180 wall on the 5200, and .250 on the 6000. Both available with 6x5.5 or 8x6.5 bolt pattern. Both use the same inner and outer bearings. Both have a 2 1/4" seal journal. Both use the 12" x 2" brakes.
Go here ( http://www.redneck-trailer.com/pdf/A/2K6Kst_axles.pdf ) and scroll down. 6000 regular duty is the 5200 axle, and the 6000 heavy duty is the true 6k axle.

I'd get the heaviest axle I could for the money. Are they the HD 6k axle Fyrman is talking about?
Thanks for the comments. I think I'll spend the extra $50 to go with the 6K axles. The mfgr I'm working uses 6 hole as standard on their 5200# axles. I could get 8, but there a special order for them.
Also - does anyone have any experience with Ennis trailer sales in (of all places) Ennis, TX. Looks like they build a good trailer at a reasonable price. Would appreciate some feedback from those that have had dealings with them.

Might try Circle M trailer in Midlothian, TX. Sonny is a nice guy and can build you a custom trailer. I had him build me some custom diamond plate fenders out of 1/8" diamond plate. Now, I just drive my rig right over them.
