: fuelin' the pump
discochick 05-13-2004, 11:34 AM hey, just wanted to drop a quick note about fuel pumps in disco's!!! i was reading on here awhile before i got "registered", and on other sites and saw that disco's are having problems stalling, going places and then dying, etc.... i just wanted to say CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP!!!!!!! we thought it was the emissions box, engine, alternator, etc... so if you're having any kind of stall prob or something, check it out! and thanks to the guys who've helped me out, just by posting!!!! cheers!! :)
DieLucas! 05-13-2004, 11:54 AM Best advice I've heard all day.
tradeshowman 05-13-2004, 05:43 PM Yea, and the damned pump in the tank ain't cheap......
am I right or am I right ......Chick???
:( :( :( :( :(
DieLucas! 05-13-2004, 07:28 PM $50 is cheap...
discochick 05-13-2004, 09:26 PM nah..... parts and labor were around $500........ definately not cheap.
PTSchram 05-14-2004, 06:23 AM nah..... parts and labor were around $500........ definately not cheap.
Gee, that job runs right around $300 around here. Parts + Labor and that's with no hacking (a pre-emptive Pendy strike).
pendy 05-14-2004, 09:22 AM Me like discochicks.
DieLucas! 05-14-2004, 09:58 AM nah..... parts and labor were around $500........ definately not cheap.
What was it that PT Barnum said?
Do a search on "Carter fuel pump." Cheap and easy replacement. Labor? Hardly any involved. Do yourself a favor and kick your mechanic in the nuts the next time you see 'em.

I thought we were talking about a Disco...
sachilles 05-14-2004, 11:10 AM jeez...must be expensive for you guys.
Had my tank pulled, fixed and coated with some sort of sealing compound, as well as fabbing up a new beefier retaining plate. All for just a hundred bucks. :grinpimp:

things are so expensive for us because we don't have an authorised dealer, nor do we have an authorised workshop..... closest place to get parts to fix the damn landrover have to come from seattle or spokane!! damn this mountain state!
red90rover 05-15-2004, 06:04 AM dude, remember early's don't have an access panel... just tank r/r books like 1.5
Really, my 1991 Disco had an access panel. 10 minutes and you have the fuel pump in your hands.
BTW, with a name Discochick, we probably are pretty certain that she does not drive a RR :flipoff2:

Authorized dealer, workshop??? You're kidding me, right? You might want to double check that you're on the correct bulletin board...
DiscoDino 05-15-2004, 07:38 AM Dunno about you guys, but the fact that a female is talking fuel "pumps" and stuff about her truck got me "shaken"... :smokin:
DiscoChick...If your single...maybe we can get into this "ChickDino" thing
:D
discochick 05-16-2004, 10:34 AM Authorized dealer, workshop??? You're kidding me, right? You might want to double check that you're on the correct bulletin board...
land rover BB, right? yeah, i'm pretty sure it's right. montana has to be the only state the does not have a land rover dealer, and the closest thing to mech. that is authorised by LandRover is across the state, about 400 miles.... the state has enough land rovers (i'm sure) to get a dealer (if you go by numbers)..... but then again the state doesn't even have a red lobster, tony roma's, olive garden, or spaghetti factory...... the point i tried to make with my previous quote, sir, was that parts are a little more expensive when the mech. you have to go see is the only decent foreign car mech. in the city... and he just can't go on down the road to get parts.....
tradeshowman 05-16-2004, 12:00 PM most girls need a mech. most women i've met don't even know where the
dipstick is....at least she's tryin' to keep it maintained , and tryin to
learn something about it.....keep it up. and good luck !
DieLucas! 05-16-2004, 01:32 PM land rover BB, right? yeah, i'm pretty sure it's right... you have to go see is the only decent foreign car mech. in the city... and he just can't go on down the road to get parts.....
And the point I'm trying to make is learn how to wrench on your own vehicle. You guys have a NAPA? Cattlemen gotta get their glow-plugs somewhere. What was a supposed $500 dollar job could've been a $50 job...or $50 in parts plus labor.
Just a reality check...there is nothing remotely exotic about a Discovery (series 1, that is). It's chassis and suspension are the same as the Range Rover from the 1970's to the mid 90's. It's engine is a bored-over Buick 215. Learn how to work on it and I'll be nice to you.
SeaRover 05-16-2004, 02:28 PM reality check - yeah - someone who is just starting to learn how to DIY for vehicle repair might want to stick to bolt-in replacement for $250.
fwiw
DieLucas! 05-16-2004, 04:47 PM pssst...$500.
REALITY CHECK!!! THIS IS THE PBB. THIS ISN'T NEWBIE, HOLD MY HAND, SHOW ME HOW TO TURN A WRENCH BULLETIN BOARD.
If Discochick weren't a chick, I wouldn't be the only one flaming her @ss to get out of Dodge...
PTSchram 05-16-2004, 06:07 PM pssst...$500.

pendy 05-16-2004, 09:37 PM Show us a picture of you next to your Rover Discochic. Then maybe you can keep us as online mechanics. Have a few girlfriends with you in a pillow fight and then we may come up to do the work ourselves.
Of course this depends on how the pics turn out. Surely someone here will appreciate this gesture.
DLCS does have a point. But I still want to see this Chic posing with her LR.

Well boys the Discochic sent me some warmup pics. I believe some pillowfight poses are on the way for us also. I say that we keep this one around. And help her keep the Rover on the road. She seems to have a sense of humor about herself and some thick skin. So that is more then some of us.
From her pic I think she is a little young for me. So lets show her a picture of Adam 9V in his tinfoil pose to start a PBB Land Rover romance between these two spring chickens. Anyone got Adams money shot to share here?
Welcome Discochick, newbie.
JP :D
PTSchram 05-17-2004, 06:03 AM She's about the right age for Shop Boy if he wasn't afraid of girls.
Apprentice Shop Boy is another story though...
Pendy is moving back up the ladder to new best friend-sorry Tony.

discochick 05-17-2004, 08:58 AM i don't know how old the rest of you are, but 22 isn't THAT young... and i hate to break your hearts, but i'm seeing a guy... he's not a car person (he works on computers and writes code), so here i am to better myself....... and pendy, the pic on that site is only about year old.
Black Mustache 05-17-2004, 11:27 AM come on, pendy- cough it up.

Look out, Pendy!!! Just 'cuz a woman looks good in a picture dosn't mean she's the real deal.
Remember your Russian mail-order bride experience? That's right! Discovery running boards. And don't you forget it!

Yes it is.
I am not a car guy, I am the car guy. Hell 22 is fresh off the turnip truck to an old foge' like myself.
Adam will be disappointed, I am sure.
