: TSL, SX, or MTR?
3Wheel_Drive 05-13-2004, 09:54 PM Ok. a few Quick and easy Q's. I am moving up. I have 35 BFG Muds on 15x8's. I will prolly be gettin new tires in a month or so, and i want to move up to the 36" or 37" range. The 4runner is my DD to school and work and back every weekday, will get to the trails and rocks one or two weekends a month. I am lookin at the TSL's, SX's, and MTR's. What would be the best. I got tired of readin through all the shit when i searched. I like the 14.5" wide Radial TSL's, but they are $$$$. These will be mounted on a 15x8 rim again.
Beat95YJ 05-13-2004, 10:20 PM I love my MTR's. They work well offroad, from slickrock to the sierra's, to the dunes to the rocks. All around great tire. Oh yeah and they are reltively quiet and smooth running as the Jeep is my DD.
Also it may be difficult to put a 14.5" tire on an 8" rim.
kyle_22r 05-13-2004, 11:28 PM too bad they don't make bigger LTBs. i ran them offroad in a little dirt today and they grip like no other. cheaper than dirt, too

i would have to agree, my MTR's have performed very well for me in all conditions. They are also used on my DD.
Fawk Awph 05-14-2004, 01:43 AM i had mt/rs on my DD F150 for a long time. wonderful DD.Weekend wheeler tire. my next tire will be a TSL though due to the fact that they are a very agressive, although usable tire.

3Wheel_Drive 05-14-2004, 10:20 AM Are you gonna get the Bias TSL or Radial? The only complaint i have about super swampers is the price.
surferchris1 05-14-2004, 01:56 PM have you looked into Xterrains, i know they're a little $$$ up front but they are wearting better than any aggressive tire i've ever run so it would be my tire of choice for a DD, I wheel mostly in the rocks mostly in the rocks, and the grip is really really good better than a standard swamper tsl or mtr in my experience. CONS:Some have complained about weak sidewalls but i have had no problems, they could clean a little better in the mud too, but mud is pretty low priority to me.
Pavement Pounder83 05-14-2004, 03:55 PM MTR for daily driving. i got a set one my truck and are great. 16/32 tread after 7000 miles and i am locked in the rear. not bad since they come with 20/32

offroadmission 05-14-2004, 04:54 PM if they are going back on the 15x8 wheels then the mtr's are your only option. the 37x12.50 15 mtr's look to be an awesome tire and all of the guys that i know that use them love them.
YOUNG BEN 05-14-2004, 06:00 PM The MTRs are great on a DD :flipoff2: . They ride nice on the street and are awsome on the rocks. I have 33s on my DD, but it is also my wheeler. Another tire to look at in the 36 to 37 inch range is the IROKs, either the 36x13.50s or the 37x12.50 radials. :D
slapnutz 05-14-2004, 07:16 PM 37" MTR's work great on the road and very well in the rocks - good all around tire.

Shades76cj5 05-14-2004, 07:38 PM I've had MTR's on my Jeep for a year now. They wear well on the road and have good road manners. They suck in the mud and snow. In the dirt and rocks I would have no other. Rumor has it if I get'em sipped they will work much better in the snow. The Jeep is my DD. Just my .02
toyotajoe 05-14-2004, 08:00 PM Well what ever tire you decide to run give me a call I work at 4wp in San Jose 408 279 4979 and I will match tire prices . Otto Man 05-14-2004, 08:52 PM SX's!!!!
XJClown 05-15-2004, 05:00 PM I would say the MTR's, their alot quieter on the road and do outstanding in the rocks with great traction. Also should look into gettin them siped, i read somewhere that doing so improves the life of it plus better grip.
3Wheel_Drive 05-16-2004, 06:03 PM Thanks alot toyotajoe! I will be sure to give u a call when i decide to get my new tires. Im pretty sure im gonna get the 37" MTR's right now.
302YJ 05-16-2004, 07:14 PM I work for a goodyear dealer and deal with the MT/Rs daily... They are truly an awesome tire for wheelin' and daily drivin'... I Also think the TSL SXs are friggin' awesome also... but would run them more if i ran into mud and wet condltions
Pavement Pounder83 05-17-2004, 12:36 AM I've had MTR's on my Jeep for a year now. They wear well on the road and have good road manners. They suck in the mud and snow. pbmang 05-17-2004, 12:40 PM I have some 38.5 sx's on my chevy (but its not a daily driver)...they are awsome offroad, but rough on the street and are so loud that you have to pull over if someone needs to talk on a cell phone...you also have to pay real close attention to tire pressures and wear patterns and make sure you rotate them religiously uf you want any kind of distance out of them at all
