: Anyone ever hear of an off-road tire for an 18" wheel?

Me either. Heard through the industry grapevine that this is destined to be the "up and coming" offroad tire size. Like you don't loose enough sidewall with 17's as it is. Maybe for blvd 4x4's or something. Huh...

Seems to me the Lamborghini LM series 4X4 of the early 80's ran 18" wheels with custom Pirelli tires?

there was a Land rover with 26" wheels and 25 series tires!!!! BLING BLING

About the 17" tires they seem to work well in ARCA (i.e. the MT claws)

Do you really think that you loose too much sidewall with 17s? 37s on 17 inch rims would have the same amount of sidewall as your 35s on 15 inch rims. Personally I think that will bigger sizes (37 and up) 17" rims (and possibly even 18") would work great. Too bad they don't make steel rockcrawler rims in 17s or 18s though. Only $$$$ Alcoas and Weld wheels with a ton of backspacing.

um, whoever sead that you wouldnt want to lose the sidewall by going to an 18"...

dont you know anything about running a large tire with a lot of sidewall? once you go above a 35-36" tire on a 15" rim, the rim starts to turn inside the tire instead of transferring the turning force to the tread and turning the tire. therefore, you lose steering control. if i were in the rocks, i sure as hell would want to steer. i dont know about you though

Kind of sounds like your statement is hypothetical, like "if I were a wheeler I'd know". Learn a lot about wheeling over there on the Cape did ya?

Damn newbies gittin' uppity...

I think the problem stems from tires being developed for pavement first, off-highway second. And what little off-pavement R&D is done is 90% geared toward BAJA style racing where big rims with short sidewalls are preferred.

I wish everyone would just standardize to 16" rims. For a 4x4, on stock tires, 16's are plenty of rim to keep the rig stable on pavement. 16's will clear EVERYONE's brakes up through 1-ton. And you lose little sidewall compared to 15" rims.

Would make too much sense though
