It will hold it but I wouldn't like to haul heavy things around on top of it unless there was a brace in the bed. I've been toying with making a bike rack to haul mtn biles with. I don't know who makes them but i was in an aftermarket showroom and saw some plastic (abs?) solid bed covers. I know that sounds weak, but they felt as strong as hell. I would quarantee they were stronger than the fiberglass or steel crap. Only thing drawback is that they said they are not paintable.
