: Who whould be serious about buying an offset RC60 rear

That is an example of what I am talking about. I can get an RC60 housing and would like to make a rear out of it like I did for my Jeep (pic above) but don't want to build a rear that I am the only guy who wants one. The price would be $750 for the housing with 14bolt ends. Tell me what you guys think?
kyrel69 01-14-2002, 08:14 PM why use the 14 bolt ends?

AAHHHH NEWBIE 101:flipoff2:
and to answer the question I would say cheap discs and a spindle that already accepts 1 9/16(14blt) or 1.5in(d60) shafts.I think if it were a stock ford housing with gears and carrier I would think there is interest. I ,or anyone could retube it on the one side. I might have to go r/c60 in the rear on my YJ if the cab and chassis 14bolt has too much d/l angle. I wont know for a while though .
How would you use 14B ends? Which D60? I need to know this!
Have a thread on this I missed?
kyrel69 01-14-2002, 08:37 PM Ok but why not just run the 14ff then, you get bigger axle and bigger ring gear. I know that it hang down more but you can shave it. that way you can have cheep stock axle if you were to break one.
66CJdean 01-14-2002, 09:04 PM The 14 bolt ends work best because they are 1.650 ID so 35 spline axles slide right in without boreing out the spindle like I do on 60 rears. The reason to run theis setup is it is an RC60 so good driveline angle, 2nd is its a 60 not a 44, and third is it has better ground clearance than the 14. I like this setup because I was able to use the stock sping pad on the housing as one of my spring pads so it works out very clean.

The biggest bonus is the high pinion. 14bolts never came that way.
wheelinjp 01-14-2002, 09:13 PM Dean I know you run a dana18 t-case but what have you done for gear strength? I would assume even new gears would be enough of an improvement to use the d18/d20s since the age of the steel determines the strength as well. I run a d20 /th350 with 36tsls and I feel safe its not gonna grenade. How much is the new tube per foot on the d60 though?
66CJdean 01-14-2002, 09:19 PM It isn't so much the price of the tube as much as the work it takes to replace it. Also it is a bitch to find 3.125 tubing so one side is 3.125 and the other is 3.250.:( If I make it offset it is pretty simple to make. I put in some 3.15's in my 18 but might change the case to a 20 case next time it is out. I just pulled the cover off the bottom and looked at the gears 2 weeks ago and they still look great so they seem to be doing fine but it is the case I worry about or the output. I carry an extra output though.
SHERPA 01-15-2002, 07:09 AM I checked on tube prices for 3.125" x .500" wall DOM.... A 10 foot
stickwould cost me $337 delivered to my door. That would be in
Campbell (San Jose area).... Note, the more you buy, the less
per foot... Another local steel supplier quoted me 327 for an 8 foot stick.......
So, that tube is about 33-35 dollars per foot if you buy in qty of
10 feet or so..

my order is placed already. (rear-steer 60rr setup)

You should do the swap Dean, when you have time of course. A good Saturday afternoon project. Its easy, and worth the extra piece of mind.
doctor_G 01-15-2002, 01:12 PM I'd be serious,......................if it where centered :D
Hello again
66CJdean 01-15-2002, 01:21 PM My rear is an RC60 already so I don't need it. Hey Doc did you fall off the face of the earth:D? It looks as though I found a FJ40 guy who wants it.
doctor_G 01-15-2002, 01:42 PM Hell, I thought I fell off the face of the earth, Then discovered I was only in PA.
No, my old puter crashed into junk. Good to be back!
Chrisjeep7 01-15-2002, 02:30 PM the only down side to a 14 bolt is that if you nuke a bearing and ruin the spindle, the housing is crap. well unless you can weld new ones on.
CJ-Jeeper 01-15-2002, 05:50 PM Just got an offset RC60:bounce: :bounce2:

That is sort of true with any FF rear.
