so i am changing a leaking water pump on a truck with 6000 miles on it, not happy :mad3: get everything removed, fan, shroud, etc. go to put on the new pump and the specs call for 35-46 lb/ft torque. at 38 lb/ft i feel the bolt strip out the thread in the aluminum front cover right above the CPS :barf: .
now my r&r becomes more involved while i hunt down helicoil for 8mmx1.25 bolts. man, i am pissed! as far as i am concerned i am never going to torque aluminum again. the shit it just too soft. make 'em snug enought to compress the rubber O ring and call it good. it doesnt take 35 lb/ft to flatten rubber. i hear that water pumps are a big problem on the diesel SD's. Anyone else have theirs shit the bed?

97K and "not yet". While you're under there, might as well replace the CPS. CPS is on of those notorious "fail on you without notice and leave you stranded" parts. You'll get the best price from your local IH dealer (about $85 to $95). Ford dealers mark up about 300% on them. I replaced mine before it failed and tossed the old one in the tool box for a spare.
