: Use of '93 Ford Aerostar Rear Axle?

I've got a '93 Aerostar sittin in the driveway and its pretty much trashed as far as the tranny and several small things that add up to a good bit of cash go, so its going to the junker. I was wondering if there is anything that would be worth keeping off of it, like the rear axle. It's a 2wd model and has a 10-bolt rear and some pivoting coil spring brackets. Should I save the axle or let it go with the rest of the heap? I have an Isuzu 4wd '90 Pickup if this helps. I just didn't wanted to let anything that might be useful slip by. Thanks for your help.

the rear should be a ford 8.8 unless someone swapped it out gears range from 3.08 to 3.73. though the lower spline count axles

it will be a five lug, so you'd have to do something about that. they came in fullsize broncos with v8's too, so, they are plenty strong axles for a lightweight rig without a bunch of power. if you can't use it, you can sell it for a few bucks.

Jeep Cherokee folk seem to like swapping in the ford 8.8. Not a jeep guy, so what do I know :D

maxwell's right jeep folks like the 8.8 to swap in though they prefer the 31 spline disc brake version which came in explorers. but you might be able to find someone who wants it. The 8.8 was ford's repacement for the 9" though regarded as a somewhat weaker axle will stand up to 250-300hp w/o problems the inherent problem is the fact that it is a C-clip axle so broken shaft = lost wheel which is why most of the ford guys are getting away from them, though warn does offer a full floating kit for it.

End of dissertation

the point decent axle worth maybe 100-150 not much more though.

are you sure it's not a 7.5? I swapped an aerostar axle into my Bronco2 (prev owner had trashed B2's axle) and it was a 7.5" geared 3:73. I don't remember the year but it was a 2.9L 2wd 'star IIRC

this one might be from a 4.0 star.

Because I didn't need it myself, I let it go to a buddy of my dad's who has a couple Aerostars he uses as work vans. He got it off my hands gave me a little green to boot. Thanks for your help guys.

all 4 liter Aerostars have 8.8s, some even have trac loks. The 2.8/9 liters seem to have 7.5s.

How close are they on width?
