Can someone tell me what the diffrence is between a Dana 35 and a Dana 35C ? A quick google search confused me more than it helped so i thought would ask the "experts" here.

Thanks

move this to newbie forum.

older dana 35 (till 89) was not c-clip axle, later ones are c-clip.

One uses c clips and one doesn't

c-clips in the differential or on the end of the axle in the hub?

I'll answer this although it should be in the newbie section:
The "c" in dana 35c stands for custom, meaning it came from the dana factory not completely assembled. It has nothing to do with whether it has c-clips or not. I have dana 35c rearends with and without c-clips. All jeep dana 35 rearends are dana 35c's.

With respect to the strength of the non c-clip and c-clip they're both about the same strength but the non c-clip version is inherently better as the shaft and wheel won't pull out if you break a shaft.

He is correct, that the "c" stands for "c-clip" is mis-information that has been floating around for years and years. My 88 XJ had a 35-c and no clips.

This place cracks me up.

A guy asks a very valid question. Granted it should be in the newb section, but even the "Pros" fuck up the answer here.

Maybe a little more time in the newbie section for all of us might do some good.

The "Pros" could care less about any D35 whether it is c-clipped or not. The axle is a tooth pick on wheels. Its a great application if your running 29inch allterrains :flipoff2:
