: FF D60 housing ends

Does anyone sell the tube end flanges for a FF D60. I'm shortening a D60 and it would be much easier to just lop the tubes off at the proper length then weld new end flanges on.

Here's an answer and question all in one.
1st - are the ff housing ends different than the non floating? I've got one of each - never taken apart, but externally they look the same.

Assuming they are the same, you can buy the housing ends from Moser, dutchman or just about any drag racer supply places. About $60 a pair according to Mosers online catalog

So what you are saying is that the spindles don't bolt on?

Dynatrac also sells virtually any/all 60 pieces.

Nope. they dont.

FWIW I'd skip the 60 spindles and get 14 bolt ones. At least that way you can go to 35 spline axles if you want to.

Huh? If he's talkin bout cutting and welding I know hes talking bout a rear 60.. besides the FF kinda gives that away too.

Not sure what you want but I have a set of ford ff ends with hubs that we cut off to use the center section. If you want them they would be real cheap like asix pack of sierra nevada and shipping from north carolina.shipping would be like 20-25 bucks I think.

OK, I figured out why I thought it was a flange. The pic I saw was of a D60 with the Warn spindles bolted on. I guess the guy must have had SF ends welded on and then used the Warm 35 spline FF kit. That's probably the route I'll go since I want to have a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern.
Having a SF flange welded on has to be less expensive than having the tubes pulled out of the pumpkin, cut, and rewelded.

that is how I ended up with ff ford ends.you just have to make a jig to get the sf ends square to the housing.

Yeah, I'm going to (gasp, dare I say it) pay a shop to weld on the ends. I only have a 110v mig and it is probably not up to the duty of properly welding on the ends.
How'd you jig the sucker?

A 110v welder isn't going to get it so good choice. The warn kit is sweet but not at all cheep. Since this comes as a kit with spindles, axles, and all the outter stuff you will need to make the rear with of one of the 9" rears they make the kit for unless you know where to get only the parts you want without the axles.

I guess I don't understand. I was going to just get one of the Warn D60 FF kits. It comes with 35 spline axles that are blank on one end so they can be cut and splined to the proper length. They use a 5 on 5.5 hub and offer a disk brake caliper mount. Then you can use CJ front rotors with the D60.

My machinist made two plates that fit where the carrier bearings go and two that take the place of the outer axle bearings. There is a hole in the middle that a piece of drill rod slides thru. The drill rod lines up the ends in relation to the carrier. At least that is how I did it.IMHO I have used two of the WARN ff kits and unless I had no other option I wouldgo with after market sf shafts (like moser). The extra weight is not worth the little bit of strength, but I will add that every thing I own has either a toyota non usa ff or corp 14 or custom ff(ie warn kit,or custom combination of front spindles ect) If that is really the way you want to go good luck,it is just a lot of work for little gain,FWIW mine are all ff.

The reason I wanted FF is so that I have the option to just pull the axle out if I break one and still be able to get home. Yes, I will be carrying spare axles, but ya never know.

You are correct though, it would be less money and less work.

OK, another fawking newbie question. Are the Ford 35 slpne axles the same dia as the Dana ones (1.5")? Seems like going with SF axles and Exploder discs (w/ 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern) would be a lot cheaper than trying to do Dana FF ends with the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern and discs or am I just not digging deep enough for answers.

I know that FF is better than SF, but is it really worth all the hassles? I know that with the FFs you can simply remove a broken axle and drive home. Do I really have to worry about broken axles with a D60?

Go with the SF and call it good. Busting a 35 spline axle is possible but not likely. I have seen 2 let go. SF is easy and not even half the price of the kit you are talking about. The price for the warn kit when I have seen a price listed was $972.

What about the 35 spline thing. Are they the same dia?

I talked to a chassis shop today and they answered this for me.
