Well, my truck didn't pass smog, failed CO and passed everything else. I was told to get a new carb, but since I have an extra one I figured why not just rebuild it. While I was comparing the extra to the one on the engine I noticed that the one on the engine has no dashpot assembly. COuld this be causing the smog failure? I was thinking to just put the dashpot I have onto the carb on the engine and see what happens, but the extra carb was accedentally knocked off my bed and of all things it landed on the dashpot. WHat does the dashpot even do? The truck runs without one, but a little rich (I haven't checked the timing or the idle yet), and the fuel additive trick did not work. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what your talking about, Dashpot? The only two things I can think of are the electric choke spring housing or the Idle cut off solenoid. Either one you need to pass smog. Is your truck hard to start in the morning?

The dashpot is the round saucer shaped dealy in front of the bowl level window onthe front of the carb. It has no problem starting at all.
