Can anyone tell me much about the Lolo Pass Trail or the McGruder (sp) Corridor Tail? I'm debating whether to take the full-size w/ the camper or the Toyota w/ the tent.

TIA

Depends on the time of year. Lotsa Snow there now so I might opt for a enclosed camper, summer time Tent for sure.

The Toyota will probably get around a little better on some of the twisty parts.

A better trip out and closer to you is up above Dayton in the Blue's

Lotsa snow, and some of the most georgeuos (sp) sunrises you will ever see. There is a reason they call them the blue mountians afterall.

Oh and the Tri Cities SUCK:flipoff2:

Where's the trailhead(s) located?

I'm guessing this isn't too far from Missoula (and Lolo), MT?

I race 4x4s about 15 miles from the Idaho border between Idaho and Lolo, MT (US-93).

I haven't had a chance to do any trail riding in the area, but I sure wouldn't mind..

Hmmm.. might finally have a reason to travel over n' play some..

The Lolo Pass Trail (FR500) runs between Kamiah ID and Lolo Pass ID. The McGruder Corridor (FR 468) runs between Elk City ID and Conner MT. I know they are often snowed-in into June (based on my Internet searches). I suspect the McGruder Trail may simply be gravel roads, but I hoping they are some neet 4x4 trails along the way. I heard rumor that the Lolo trail has been truned into a bike trail -- God I hope not. In both cases, these trails are long (Lolo >40miles and McGruder >100).

I hope someone can elborate on these trails. I'm planning on a late July trip with the wife and kid and I would like to know of all the cool stuff along the way.

TIA,

The Lolo is more fun and yes snow is a possibility until August. Then there are fires to worry about. This last year and the year before the whole area was on fire.

Call the Forest Service they will be able to help you out, with current conditions.

If you want to spend some really good camping time with the wife and kids with some outstanding country around, check out Dworshak Resivoir for a night or two and then head through Kamiah and where the Locsha and Selway come together take the road up the Selway, toward the end of the road you will see a sign for Fog Mountian it goes off to the leftside of the road. Take that road until it ends (last time I was there it was passable by but 4lo was the best choice cause there were a few wash outs, from there take the short three or four mile hike into Mirror Lake. It is totally worth it, spend a day or two there and then head back down to the Selway explore all the forest roads you dare, but be forwarned some will f you up. And just remember to pack it in and pack it out.

I grew up in that area and will probably retire there, the only place that is even comparable is the High Seirra's in Cali but then you have to deal with Californians'. Sorry guys I am a bit shortsighted I know:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Thanks for the infomation. We spend most of our summers running the Cascades. I'm looking forward to checking out Idaho trails, fishing, and the other stuff.

bringing this back up -

Does anyone here know if the side trails off the Lolo Trail near Saddle Camp are open to access into Gravey Creek? Here is a map below are of the area anad places I am referring to.

http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=46.52334&lon=-115.12045&s=48&size=l&u=4&datum=nad27&layer=DRG

Fishing trip is planned for later in the year into Cayuse/Gravey and I thought it may be fun to try to access via the Lolo Trail instead of the Kelly creek side.

PM is good too. Thanks.
