: Krawler Compound.....Unfair Advantage?

Searched but didn't find anything.

My understanding was that UROC/RCAA has (maybe had???) a rule saying that if a tire wasn't available to all competitors, it wasn't legal for comp.

Is this correct and more importantly, is it still the case?

The reason I ask is that BFG gave me the stock number for their comp compound 39" Krawler and told me to find a BFG retailer to sell me a set for my rig. Well, after getting the runaround from several retailers, I called BFG to see who they recommend and now they're telling me, "sorry, they are only available to sponsored competitors....we screwed up".

However, if that's the case then aren't the 39's (since they are only red label right now) an "unfair advantage" according to comp rules?

After talking to 4 different people at BFG, I'm a little confused as to whether or not I can actually get my hands on a set of these tires unless I'm sponsored.

Any help's appreciated.

The 39's were not legal for Rcaa, but they are legal for Uroc. I think the 39's are only available to competitors that have signed up with BFG.

Anybody racing with a legitimate race schedule can sign up thru their race program and buy them- therefore, any racer who wants them can buy them. They are not available to the general public and likely won't be in the red compound cause some idiot would put them on his superduty and

A) cook them and cry fowl cause he did not get 25000 miles out of them
B) generate too much heat in a non DOT tire, fail a tire and blame BFG

I'm betting Blue label 39's will be out one of these days just like the 35's and 37's are now.

I tend to agree with you about why they wouldn't release a red label version......however I wonder if they'll even release a blue label 39. They're most likely going to be a C range tire. Think about it.....most likely some jackass is gonna try and run them on his fullsize and (well, follow your A&B examples above).

I hope you're right though. If I can't get the red label, I'd still like to get the blue. My only other choices right now are Iroks or MTRs; neither of which I'm really sold on.

'05 this was beat to death late last year with people crying like babies about it taking so long to get them... Lance even had an audio clip of the interveiw with the BFG rep saying this...

and as said above, anyone registed with BFG and has a race schedule can buy the tires, just make sure your sitting down when u hear the price...

Sorry, searching came up with nada. You gotta link to the thread? I'd like to read what was said if possible.

Thanks,
Sean (PS. I'll do some more searching to try and find it).

no clue where it'd be now... i just remember it was posted by Lance, and was an audio interveiw with BFG, basically stating that they're going public in 05

"unfair advantage".........blue labels will not win it for anyone....
there is still:
driver skill/spotter skill
communication
rig engineering
rig set up (air pressure, link geo, CG, height, weight, weight placement, water)
terrain
weather
luck

run what you brung (or in this case, can get your hands on)...if your good you'll be there anyway

and if it's that big of deal, I don't understand why people haven't used tire softener like in other forms of racing..

Toyfamily.....

Did you even bother to READ this thread? It has nothing to do with the Krawler compound actually being an "unfair advantage" and everything to do with the rules (specifically the rules regarding "readily available" clauses found in the UROC rules 2.8 and 4.19.9).

I'm just trying to find out if the distribution system for Krawler's 39" red label tires is "legal" under the rules. That question was answered by several people already.....yes, it's legal b/c any competitor can get the tire as long as the have a valid race schedule and don't mind dropping the coin. "Unfair Advantage" was merely the jargon everyone used when these tires first came out.

That help clarify it?

BTW, I agree 100% on your comment....it comes down to a helluva lot more than just tires or one element.....but that's another subject entirely.

Take care,
Sean

You're right, rear-steer with Red Labels on a moonbuggy with Tracy Jordan driving is definitly an unfair advantage! :flipoff2:
