: pics of scouts cutoff from the driver/pass. seat back
snoop dogg 05-21-2004, 11:33 AM im looking for pics of scouts that are cut from the driver and passenger seat back...either tubed out or flatbed or something. Im seriously considering just putting a toyota front cab and clip on my scout frame and tubing out the back, but i would like to see your guys pics or ideas of what to do to keep some scout on the frame. I just can't picture a good looking way to keep the front clip of the scout and then have something that looks good from either the firewall or the seats back. Other than taking the beater look to something that looks nice, there is no reason for the toyota cab...plus lightweight.
so it's either lightweight yota cab, looks nice...flatbed tubed out rear. requires lots more fab.
or keep the scout and cut...but i dont' have too much creativity for something to look good.
troutbum 05-21-2004, 02:41 PM what are you doing for a rear suspension? when I did the bob I seriously considered leaving the cut about center of wheel well and then dove tailing it in incorporating coil over mounts into the cage. I think it would look badass. long nose and a stubby little tail

My on going project.
You could do a tube rear section on the Scout, along these lines

It was built by him and my other friend Krazykrawler (Sean).
Hammerlock 05-21-2004, 10:56 PM  I have to save these pics just to piss off the BB purists. Has anyone thought about moving the axle back instead of bobbing it? More wheelbase and cargo room is always good. Of course, the gas tank is in the way regardless.
Fawk Awph 05-22-2004, 02:12 AM im moving my rear axle back about 7-8 inches. cutting the rear fenders a lot like what binder did...only cleaner :flipoff2: . same with the front about 4-5 inches. im not sure what the stock wheelbase is....but this wiil put me at what....111-113ish, that is a wonderful number. i will also most likely have a 90* approach, and 75* ish departure. just found out that the SII ans 800 80s all have a 100" wheelbase. thats cool.

scout_on_38s 05-24-2004, 08:11 AM Go to the BB, Binderbart has a II with a flatbed. Has a post about taking it out of storage within the last 2 weeks.

After you do this-
"i plan on taking it through everything that the PNW can throw at it."
Yours will look a lot like mine do now. If your lucky.
tsm1mt 05-24-2004, 08:36 AM I saw a picture not long ago where someone had moved the end-caps and tailgate up and used them in place of a bulkhead for a cap-top or Terra top.
I've seen a few Jeeps and FJ40s done up like this, too.

haha, seriously right now the scout looks worse. i sanded off 3-4" of bondo on each rear corner. hopefully that will be cut out. as of now im not going to throw everything the PNW has at it.....i dont have my 14 bolt in and my D44 doesnt have good components yet....someday i eill have the money..... :(

RustoleumWhite 05-24-2004, 03:18 PM im looking for pics of scouts that are cut from the driver and passenger seat back...either tubed out or flatbed or something.
search for Pics from "TT".. his earlier Scout incarnation is similar to what your asking for.. one of the few I've seen that actually looked decent...
not to big on the "fenderless" version he has now.... but functional :D

I like this... buggy, yet keeps the definate scout apearence.. ('71 too I note). Fender looks a little butch right now... be very curious to see it when its done... keep us (well atleast me) updated as he goes along..
Scoutilac.. you look'n??
offroader1006 05-24-2004, 06:56 PM i fiddled real quick in PS and came up with this.
http://oldsouthoffroad.com/flatbed1.jpg
just put the rear caps and top right behind the driver.
its a little too tempting, i better stop before i find the sawzall and mig :D
Urban Wheeler 05-24-2004, 07:14 PM Interesting. Just wondering, what do you accomplish doing that? (Offroader's pic) I know you lose some weight, but it is the same size as the body used to be. Not to mention the frame and leaf springs. If I was going to chop the body off and do some tube, I would cut the frame too and put a 4-link in the back.
toocoolforschoolTJ 05-24-2004, 08:18 PM I did what offroad's picture was, except i made a elevated flatbed that gave me room for about 15+ inches of up travel with 35's and 4" lift. I'd send pics, but as of now that scout is all but demolished because i'm putting most of the parts onto my 77 traveler with the pussy ass wiring thats hard to figure out. I saved the frame and most of the body panels off my old one and i'm going to do something much zr2's pictures, cept skinnier body. Good luck all oh yeah the problem with moving the end caps forward is that they aren't as tall as the quarter panels behind the door, but its ieasy to make them tall enough with a little cutting and welding
offroader1006 05-25-2004, 01:10 PM well, its not an autocad design or anything, the rear would def. have built in coil over and 4 link mounts, i wouldnt have to worry about rear sheetmetal, meaning i could run whatever size tire i wanted, and i think the weight loss would be around 100 lbs.
sceep 05-26-2004, 07:58 AM buddy of mines.
offroader1006 05-26-2004, 08:11 PM not much left there huh.
im guessing it still has the Scout hood/grille as well as the inner fenders
does he ever run the outer fenders on it?
ive been toying with the idea of making a quick attach/detach fender, so i could look pretty on the road and still beat it on the trail. :D
sceep 05-27-2004, 06:14 AM yeah, hood, grill, dash, firewall, and inner fenders.
as for outter fenders. nope.. they were demolished a few years ago.
This obstacle (different rig in picture, same hole though) literally tore the passenger side off, then a few drivers side flops finished of the drivers.
