I was talking with Ben from OTT when I dropped off my pitman arm for re-tapering and he suggested I go hydro assist because the arm is so short. I did a search but didnt find anything on zu box tapping... any ideas?

since this is dealing with your steering... did you go with the bulletproof heim joints?

i cant help with you about hydro assist, i don't have it on my rig.

Matt @ west texas offroad (redneck ram) did Rob G's ------ IIRC

turned out pretty slick...............haven't heard too much in the long term abuse catagory however.

Yup, get with LakeRat on this board, he can help you out. I was going to do mine myself, but was told there are some difficulties in doing the Isuzu box, i believe some porting of the spool valve is required and the tapping one of the holes is real tricky (not much metal). I have lots more picts on my site if you would like to check it out.

But at the price Matt charges, it was way easier to leave it to the pro. I've been running the box almost a year now, it handles the abuse just fine.

Thanks Rob... good pics. I think I'll get the boys at OTT to do my box seeing as theyre only 45 min from my house, and I dont really trust myself with this kinda stuff.

I like the idea of being able to turn with the front locked :D I had issues even with my 33"s and a lockrite... I think spooled and 37"s would be a bit much for the stock shit. I just hope the 2.6 pump can handle this kinda setup  If not I'll put on a sag pump, but after all the time spent making custom brackets to mount the zu pump to the 283 I'll give it a try first.

I'm running a stock Chevy pump to my stock box. On 37s it still works pretty good, though its definitely a lot harder to turn with the front end locked up. One of these days i'll have lakerat tap my spare box for me and put in a ram. Might I ask why are you using a spool in the front? seems like you're makin more work for yourself and more stress on parts.

Two words... simplicity and price. I ran an OX in front D44. It was expensive and all around i liked it, i could turn it off to make the tight turns, but i had issues with the cable falling out of adjustment, etc. and all this seemed to happen when i needed it the most. When i upgraded to my D60, i choose to keep it simple. The spool i never have to worry about whether its locked or not, its a fraction of the cost of a ARB or Detriot, no airlines to get snagged or cables to adjust, and certainly way stronger than a lockright or any other lunchbox.

Go hydro and never look back.

Werd. Same reason as myself. I know I'll blow up my 44 with this setup so I'm looking for a 60 and 14blt but I wanna wheel so I'll run it for the summer and be a little lighter on the throttle. Btw I talked to Ben at OTT again and he agreed to do my box. Rob, I hope you dont mind him using your and Matts research... just seems a bit much to send the box way down there for only a little machining.
