: Hi All, Just starting my build up
Bonestripper 01-15-2002, 02:12 PM I hope to leave newb status in 3 or 6 weeks.
I have a 85 CJ7 that is getting a transplant from a 73 Wag. 350 Buick, T400, Dana 20, power str, and 44 flanged rear. The wag cost me $600.00 so I figure I will be ahead that way but my question is on D60 rears.
What is a common flange-to-flange measurement of a D60? I am looking for just a range not an exact number.
The 44 measures 59” flange to flange, and if the 60 is not much more I may start looking at that as an option.
sjb83cj 01-15-2002, 02:20 PM Going through the same thing myself, my front dana is the same width, I found a gm14bolt off a cab an chassis and its 62" wms to wms. I have the hub and spindle and caliper and caliper brakets and rotors from a 3/4 ton late 70's gmc truck that are 8 lug, to match the 8 lug on the 14bolt. The new parts will push the front wms to about 61" and thats just fine by me!
Good luck and keep us up todate!
One more thing, I found the 14bolt at a salvage yard for $100! It came with 4:10 gears, a locker for this thing is about $300 and you have to go with disk brakes on this thing, I removed the drum and took them back to the salvage yard and they were 147lbs! Got to go with disk brakes, really easy to do!

GhettoRig 01-15-2002, 02:52 PM My rear 60 is 67 inches WMS to WMS. That's full width from a 72 Ford truck (I think).

wheelinjp 01-15-2002, 04:55 PM Welcome aboard NEWBIE:flipoff2:
So before you look into a big diff. what tires are you planning on running? What kind of lift and what will be the primary use? I see you are from Washington so it is only neccessary to go d60 if you ever plan on going bigger than 35s IMO. I run 36 tsls on my flanged 44 and I have only broke a pinion caused by bouncing. The narrowest d60 wms to wms I know of is 65in. from a dodge and I have one for sale with an open carrier and 4.10s. They are good and easy to narrow. I have a guy local here that will narrow it to any jeep width for 250 with axle resplining included. I am going with the cab and chassis 14bolt myself on the YJ I am building, and using a waggy front with 8lug outers which increases the wms to wms to 62.5in. With a diff offset wheel front than rear It will work out ok. If I were you I would run the 44s front and rear and get the drivetrain otherwise dialed in, then if a problem swap rear axles. Then lift it with a wrangler spring over or even a stock spring springover and throw 35s on it and wheel your free lifted 600buck drivetrain Jeep that will flex great and have plenty power and height. How cool would that be? IMO anything over a 36in tire here is redundant and limits your access to certain trails. I am going 38.5 on the YJ but I plan to drag it all across the west coast to wheel it everywhere I can.
1MutCJ7 01-15-2002, 05:18 PM I think I remember reading some where on the board that a dually chevy rear is about 61" wide. Try a search and you may find that thread. Good luck
wheelinjp 01-15-2002, 05:56 PM MY cab and chassis rear 14bolt is a true measurement assembled of 63in. wms to wms. I have seen 62in posted and dont know if there is a variation but mine measured correctly is 63in wms to wms.

Bonestripper 01-16-2002, 08:29 AM Glad to be here, and thanks for the welcome everyone. :flipoff2:
wheelinjp, that is why I am here is for good input like yours. I wanna touch on the Wag Springs more because I had not even thought to use them on the rear. I will start the year with 33's, and then cut fenders next year to get 35's I wont go over that because as you said it limits you around here.
If I would have thought I would have gone newer on the Wag to get a 44 front also but the price was right, and the Buick 350 was just rebuild. I had planned on SOA, so the rear out of the wagon makes sense I am not sure how far I need to move the pads but I will let ya all know.
So is your suggestion to use Wag front springs, and a wag 44 front in SOA to finish the rig? Very good idea.
I assumed all Wags where stock SOA rear SUA Front. Please enlighten me as to if the Wag front is SUA, and needs converted. I may need the number of your buddy ehheeh.
