I already have a couple 8.8 rears out of Mustangs. What front axle would work in conjunction with an 8.8 swap in the rear? I know the Mustang axles are almost the same width as a Ranger, but how close is it to a Jeep width? Brake differences, and the absence of leaf spring perches are a non issue to me. I can weld on perches, and I can get brakes off other vehicles.
What axle could I use in the front in conjunction with the 8.8 in the back? Does the last gen Bronco or 4wd F series use an 8.8 in the front?
The reason I ask is because these 8.8's already have forged 31 spline and forged 33 spline axles in them.
This is for a 1976 CJ7.
Thanks.

there is no such thing as a 8.8" front. the only thing that had a solid axle in the width you are needing is a early bronco, but the diff is on the wrong side for your application. you can get an axle out of a scout II. it is a dana 44 and i believe on the correct side. also waggoneers had 44 fronts with a passenger side drop. i am not sure of the years though

Well, technically there is an 8.8 front, its the RR front out of a 97+ Ford. This is what Currie first used, then copied for thier hi pinion 9"s. Its an ifs front end, so you wouldn't want it...get a 74 to 80 jeep full size cherokee or wagoneer front 44, narrow trac is about 61", wt is about 64"...

Found this artical the other day.
(The 8.8-inch debuted in 1983 Broncos and F-150s, and is now found also in 4.0-liter Rangers and Explorers/Navajos. It is easily distinguished from a 9-inch by having a cover on the back.)
Found it Here>>

An 8.8 is what is in the front of Expedition's, F150's, and Navagators. As noted they are not a solid axle so not worth much.
