Just done a coil spring swap on my BJ42.

PROBLEM!!!........... The front wheels just seem to flap all over the place causing the biggest death wobble ever. It makes the front wheels bounce off the ground.

When I did it I totally stipped the front housing and rotated the knuckles, it now has approx. 1deg of caster. I replaced the bearings in the knuckle pivots.
I replaced the tie rod ends, realy rod ends etc. It now has approx 1/8 toe in.

At first I thought it was tyre bounce, shocks too stiff, I put them back to number 3 setting, RS9000. Still does it. (When I first drove it, it was dark and I couldnt see anything). After driving it in the daylight I can see the front wheels just wobbling all over the place.

Any ideas on what to check as I am going insane and really want to drive my Landcruiser.

I suppose I should go out and keep checking things out.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. any ideas at all however stupid they sound are more than welcome! I am going to torch the bastard otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I may have solved my problem.

I remembered a friend of mine had a similar problem on his Nissan Patrol, not of bad of course. It was worn shackle bushes allowing the springs to move side ways alot.

My panhard rod is at a very steep angle, I know it should be as flat as possible but it was the only way I could get in there. So with the panhard rod at a steep angle a slight up and down movement causes alot of sideways movement of the diff.

With my father and I taking turns driving it and observing it we came to the conclusion that it must be the panhard rod causing the problem.

Do you think that would be the cause?

It is amazing what a 10 minute break will do. Puts a whole new perspective on things!!

Try to get that thing as parallel with the axle as you can. Hitting a bump will cause the axle to move side to side as you said. You should also take a look at adding some more caster. Try 3, 5, 7 degrees until you find a happy setting. How many links did you use on your front end? Give us a description of how you set it up.

Give it a little bit or "Tow-In" and it should help some too...
