Friend has a line on a 1979 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 van. It has a 14 bolt rear with locker and 3.73 gears. Has the SBC400, TH400, NP205.
And the front axle is a driver side setup. Looks like a 60 to me, but need some help here, I don't know on the old vans like this.
My friend sent these two pictures that the guy sent him.

So is this axle a Dana 60? And if so, anything wrong with it?
Thanks

It looks like a D44 to me, but the spring perch on the driver side looks like it is welded on. It could be a 44 from a Ford just by looking at the webbing and the pinion oiling sump.

Tell him to get pictures of the steering setup.

I'm with Eric, but it is hard to get a perspective with those pictures. Also look at the hubs if you can (much larger than 44 stuff).

I'm gonna have to say that's a 44. First, if its a van, its a conversion. Second, if it's that old, look to see if it's got ball joints or king pins. Next, look at the hubs. 60 hubs are HUGE compared to a 44. The driveshaft joint looks kinda puney too.

Judging by what I can see size-wise, I'd say a 44

Something else to keep in mind, vans are rated differently than pickups alot of times. It may have the G35 badges (or similar), but that doesn't mean that they put a 1-ton frontend under it. Like I said, its a conversion. It was never offered straight off the assembly line like that.
