to give you some background i drive a 91 yj with an nv3550, 231, 60 rear and 44 front.

Anyway, on my way to school the last couple of days i have been getting this clunk, it seems to be getting louder the more i drive it. earlier today i was letting the jeep drive itself around while i hung onto the back bumper with my feet on the axle tubes, and i could feel a good clunk through my feet. i also saw that it clunked about once with every revolution of the driveline which leads me to believe that my problem is occuring before the power gets geared down by my d60. anyway, my rear u joint had a lot of play in it so i put a new one in, so i know its not that. because my d60 is has flaoting hubs with newer wheel bearings, i doubt that is where my problem is at. I have an early style slip yoke eliminator kit in the transfer case.

I have to get to work tomarrow morning, so i need to get this figured out. i dont feel like taking the t case out right now unless i have to, being that it is friday night and i have to try out my new ID. any help is greatly appreciated.

oh yea, my nv3550 is out of one of the first 2000 TJs that came with them. i heard the early ones had some problems, anyone know if that could have something to do with this? i doubt it because it clunks in any gear

today i took the t case out and found nothing wrong, the cv on my driveline looked kinda loose, but not that bad. the wheel bearings are newer so i doubt they are the problem.

HOW ABOUT SOME GODAMN HELP HERE?

Sandusk,
Any luck? I'm in the same situation. 2000 TJ clunking between gear shifts. Most noticeable between 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd. One mechanic said T-Case chain stretched... I call BS. My father in law thinks its T-case output shaft bearing.

I haven't torn into it so I have no idea at this point, but thought this might help.

When you get the clunk does the gear shift move? If so, tranny mount can be worn, tore or bad

Check the motor mounts
