Taking the weekend to install an arb, pigs and profields in my truck. No big problems really, other than I have never installed brand new birfs in anything, just well used ones...Packed 'em full of grease, snapped the inners and, an by gosh, these things are *tight.* They'll move around on the shaft, but grudgingly. Is this normal for new parts, and they'll break in fine? I'd like to get bto the button up stage this afternoon, but would like to know everything's "a-ok," and tight but movable is normal behavoir for new birfs...???

snapped the inner...

C clip?

I think you should omit that inner C clip, especially if you ever bust an inner axle and want to continue using that Profield.

PIG inners outta be unbustable....the Profield will snap well before that.

I didn't use the circlip tho on my install, test-fitted the inners and the seal surface was spot-on...the EZ-Lock has enuf spacing to properly locate the inner shaft without a martak or circlip.

Tested mine hard last weekend....left rear tire on a tree, cage wedged so I can't back up, leaning hard on the drivers side, full reverse, full steering lock, in granny....and nuthin broke....spun the rig about 18", thot sure sumthin would give....

Did manage to break another rear pinion tho later in the day...bah...

Tony, thanks for the timely reply...
NOT:)

Dudes, thanks for the tips. Got the axles together. The suckiest part was that even though I ground the housings, and test fit the birfs with the knuckle housing off, and they fit fine, with a little slop even...it wasn't enough with the housing back on...*sigh*

Hadda spatula all the grease back out, pull both knuckle housings off, regrind, repeat. Worked fine on 2 out of the three axles we built last weekend, #3 had to come back apart for re-grinding...
