: Blinded by the light! YJ headlights SUCK!
LOPPY 01-16-2002, 10:56 AM Mine suck anyway.
A while back someone posted about sticking some headlights in that had a Toyota part number or something. I remember them saying the headlights were twice as bright. I could'nt find the link. Anyone know?
YJ4LIFE 01-16-2002, 11:22 AM I'd like to know abou that too, maybe you should edit the title of his thread to be "Toyota headlights on a YJ????" or something similar
LOPPY 01-16-2002, 11:29 AM I tried.
C'mon! I know someone knows which part it is.
YJ4LIFE 01-16-2002, 11:31 AM Hit edit, then rewrite the line that is after "subject:"
YJ4LIFE 01-16-2002, 11:33 AM nevermind, I just tried on one of my own threads. =/ you could try delteing this thread and starting a new one
LOPPY 01-16-2002, 11:44 AM Go for it dude. I'll delete this one. I'm starve'n! Gotta go get me some grub. :rasta:
Victor 01-16-2002, 11:53 AM i agree about the headlights but i think it is the position, not the bulbs. hard to aim too. What I did that was very easy was to put 2 extra headlights mounted to the bumper. I used cheap blazers that cost me about $25 at Kragens. They just have one wire that goes to the positive pole. they ground to the bumper. I just connected the wire to the fog lifgts and they run while either running or fog beans are on. I liked em so much I put a set in the rear as backup lights. Those are wired with a manual switch so that I can turn em on while driving (for tailgators ;) )
Cutter 01-16-2002, 12:08 PM use hologen replacements:rolleyes:
Victor 01-16-2002, 12:29 PM I use halogen. most everyone does these days. they still don't do enough. i like the 4 light setup
LOPPY 01-16-2002, 12:31 PM Hey Vic, thanks for the auxiliary light wireing specs. I was wondering how to do that. :D :D
Cutter. Man, I did'nt think of that. Thanks!
:flipoff2:
I'm looking for a particular part number for a headlamp that's actually a Toyota part. I seen these lights at night. They're awesome.
nolymytz 01-16-2002, 12:37 PM vic,
Did you use a relay for any of the extra lights?
-Nolymytz
Cutter 01-16-2002, 12:50 PM call pep-boys...or look for help getting over your fear of the dark:flipoff2: seriosly (sp?) i don't think there's anything to gain past the hologens unless you look into HID's (ka-ching!) I remember one of the four wheel magazines had an art. 'bout running 12 volts to the lights in an XJ, instead of the long-ass way the factory wires 'em thru the harness. More voltage = more light? Just an idea...
oldjeep 01-16-2002, 12:52 PM You could try these, they're legal.

Or, they also make some that are not DOT approved - require you to upgrade the headlight circuit and run at about 100W.

i sure how your joking about the auxillary headlights... if not, take out your engine and give it to me, you dont deserve a tree fiddy
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Imkunfused 01-16-2002, 12:56 PM also, jeff, go to a parts store and try to match the plug pattern from the back of your lights... and look in the book at toy's halogens, probably mid80s til early 90's its worth a try
LOPPY 01-16-2002, 01:29 PM Cool ideas. I think I'm going to do this: (thanks Putzboy) Run a relay. Switch wire into relay and take a perfect 12v right to some new Halogens. That ought'a do the trick.
Thanks fellah's! :usa:

Come get it James! :flipoff2:
I bought a pair of GE high ouput replacements for $15.00. I bought them from K-mart... They use 55 watt low beams and 65 watt high beams compared to the stock 35 watt low beams and 55 watt high beams. They are DOT approved also. They are much better then stock lights. Wire them with relays and get your power from the back of the alt. and they are even better.
It's all about Hella cases with Piaa superwhite 80w/80w H-4 bulbs. Twice as bright does not describe it. The bulbs draw 80w/80w (hi/lo beam) and put out 115w/135w of light. Auxilliary lighting no more. :flipoff2: :D
Victor 01-16-2002, 04:02 PM I didn't use a relay. I would suggest that you do, I am just not that good at wiring. It works for me but quite possibly puts alot of load on the system. I wouldn't use my advice as an authority, just what I came up with...
Imkunfused 01-16-2002, 04:13 PM Oh yeah jeff, its a wonder no ones said it... USE ROUND HEADLIGHTS :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Imkunfused 01-16-2002, 04:16 PM Oh yeah whatcha doing this saturday jeff. if i dont have to work on my friend's honda, i will try to come by, honest, this time
XJJack 01-16-2002, 04:31 PM All the lights are the same. There are just a few diferent sizes. But for your app, any high low large will fit, all plugs are the same two. The way to get more light is to get the HELLA or PIAA lens that you can put standard H4 bulbs in (also same plug) just this is a big improvement same power more focused. If you want more you by the nonDOT H4 bulbs up to 100/150. If you go that high you need to put in a relay and biger wire, I would recomend this anyway it always helps.
H8monday 01-16-2002, 04:41 PM Loppy,
I was gonna mention the relay modification also.
If you use the stock wiring as the triggers for 200 amp continuose duty relays, then run 10 gauge wires from a distrubution panel or fused from the battery, you will ba very surprised how bright even the stock lights can be, but halogens work awesome.
350CJ5 05-12-2002, 07:11 AM Hella makes a nice light that goes into original housing-got mine at NAPA-go for these.
