Could it be 39.5 Iroks on it?

Might not be the first, there's one here in MN with 39.5s

It was just out doing the Black Hills, I'm sure someone got a picture of it out there.

Portals rock! 18" of clearance under the front diff

That's a pretty cool rig. Although not for me, the lightbar style is...interesting. :D

Nice, I'm guessing the pinion length isn't as long compared to a Mog axle, unless the axles are a hybrid portal/other axle combo.

My bad, the one I'm thinking of is Mog axles.

My bad, the one I'm thinking of is Mog axles.I was looking for the offset placement of the axle in the pic. Portals are have that secondary gear reduction too :cool2:

It isn't the first with portals, but maybe the first with volvos. If you were going through all the trouble why wouldn't you go with mogs?

There are some Yj and TJ with portals competing in Europe and also some Mercedes G with portals. I have seen a NISSAN patrol with portals too. But about the IROCS I have seen none around here.... lots of Super Swamper and tons od SIMEX.
See one of our spanish teamīs TJ in Swampers here (Alvaro de Orleans)

And some rigs with portals:

what's with that rear winch mount?!? not for me, there are better ways to achieve that.

On EURO competitions we have to go down incredibly steep slopes in a timed stage so going down with the winch is the best bet, Really steep.... and if you loose control you end up bottom part up.
UROC is more about climbing with engine short stages and roll over if "neccessary" we do long stages and compete for some days in the forests, deserts and jungles, so "rolling is avoided if possible" we use the winch both up and down.
WE do some extreme winching here...8274 all the way (some 24v and some dual 8274s) to improve line speed.

I'm pretty sure that he realizes the usefulness of the rear winch, especially as you say for those enduro type comps that you guys do. But that one is mounted to the weakass tub. It could and should definately be stronger...and yeah, you guys do like the 8274's. Wheeling must be a fawking expensive sport over there...

Braxton is correct, I know what it's for, but it's not the best mounting option for multiple reasons IMO...

I'd like to know what the shape of the plate is (behind what you can't see), and where it all ties in to.

Don't judge that quick. We all mount the rear winch on the same spot and it is not on the tub. It is bolted directly to the frame over the rear axle. We all do it that way.
We cut the tub and fit a box like cover with a lid. Then we can open the lid and check the cable.
We normally mount COME-UP 9000 winches , that have the brake outside the spool and do not melt the plasma or if space permits a 8274.
I can get some pics if you want.

-That's what I was getting at...I was curious how it was tied in, and what kind of supports were behind "the visible" in the picture. Not a future project of mine, but I'd be curious just to see the pics, Eduardo. :D

here are the pics, they are not very good BUT you will get the idea of where the winch sits in the back.

those pics show the fairlead much lower than the pics at the beginning of this thread. that's a good mount, the other is too high for the wheelin' I do. the winch would pull the rig down and rearward rather than strictly rearward OR up/rearward. just extra bind IMO.

now, that's one hell of a tow rig!!!
