Well I know I caught some flamin for putting leafs on in place of coils. But after I got it finished I finally got to test it at the Badlands in Attica. It performed excellent. Only casualty was a small spot in the bed, knocked some rust out :flipoff2:
I'm running 14 bolt rear welded, hp44 front w/quik lock, YJ 4" leafs up front, MJ leafs with AAL and temporary 2" block in rear, 5.13 gears and 38" TSL's. I don't regret the leafs at all now that I've got to test em out. Here's a few shots.
I need to do some more trimming on the rear and figure out a spring swap to eliminate the blocks. But I had to get it out for some motivation, too much time in the garage makes ya lose focus.

Love those rims, wish I could find a set in 5 on 5.5 for my YJ. Rig turned out good.

I'm planning to pull them off soon. Don't want to waste em on a rust bucket trail rig. Gonna go on my J10 when I swap axles so I'll have some bling bling on the tow rig when it's done.

You have done a very clean job of it! Nice work!
The only problem I see is the leaf shackles in the front would definately get you hung up on 90% of the 3.5+ trails out west you loose about 6" of approach angle. We have to wait on many trails for the yj's and sprung yotas to get through obstacles that coiled xj's and mj's walk through because of the low hanging front shackles.
This is a 4' legde on Pritchett canyon the XJ walked right through it but a yj had to take the bylass because the shackles

When I go with bigger tires they'll be completely in front of the shackles. The shackles do stick out a little right now but it's not too bad for the terrain we have around here.

I don't see any problems with losing the coils. You have plenty of flex with more stability. You don't have control arm, trash bar, lower control arm crap hanging down on the bottom. I'd run that setup in a heartbeat. :smokin: My buddy has one and we ripped the LCA off this weekend and had to hold the axle back in place with the 8274. Fawking PITA IMO :shaking: Plus all you have to do is weld spring perches and shock mount on any new or different front axle you use.

Sounds like the last time I wheeled with front coils in my XJ. Drove it 40 some miles home with the winch cable holding the front axle somewhat in place.
And the MJ is killer! :)

XJUSA I'm running 4" YJ's up front and stock MJ's with an AAL and 2" block in the rear. I'm trying to figure out a leaf pack for the rear to eliminate the blocks, possibly go to 61" chevy's.
TUFFJARHEAD I'm about 6 miles south of Warsaw, or 45 minutes from the Fort depending on which part your in.

shackle reverse it and you would be even happier! my approach angle is way good and i still hit it on the near vertical stuff, but just a little, i always scrape over it. plus shackles up front sucks imo

Shackle in front rigs cant do 3.5+ trails....?
:flipoff2:
I do plan to rip out my front leafs some time in the future, but mostly cause I want to get my tie rod and steering ram up higher.

what do ya mean Ashman? you can run high-steer with leafs...
i really like my leafs up front, I would still swap back to coils (coilovers actually) if I had the money, but for a cheap effective solution they are working great.
