Is the rear out of an 86 Yota a good replacement for the D35? This is for a YJ.

Quick answer: Yes.

Search. It has been discussed many times...

I have a quick question too...why? If you go through the trouble, why not get a stronger axle?

It depends on what you're using it for...but yes the 8" is stronger, and can be built nicely for pretty cheap.

if your gonna stay under the 38in. tire range it will be a cheap choice.i think you can fine a gear ratio close to the jeep axles and weld it if you want a spool...

Ideally I would get a D60 or 14 Bolt, but I haven't been able to find many for cheap. It is hard to build a solid rig on a college budget. I guess waggy 44's will do. Going to run 37" MTr's, soa. Just thought would get some advice from people who know. I think I have read just about every post about axles and topics that apply. I just can't seem to make up my mind. What year of vehicles can I find good strong axles that are just a few inches wider than stock? Thanks

I dont know about the Denver area but I know out here in CA you can get a 14 bolt or 60 for about $150 from PNP(pick n pull wrecking yards). Sometimes they have 1/2 price weekends so that would be $75 or so for either and there are lots of em!!!!

I agree. Out here in Texas (DFW area) FF D60s sell from $100-to-$150, and it's not uncommon to find one under $100. The same applies to 14-bolts. And there are special "$35 Dollar Days" and "Half Price" days at the local JYs.

Just keep looking. If you want a 60 or a 14B, then you shouldn't have any problem finding one.

Yeah, but then you gotta find a front to match. That's where the money hops out of your wallet.

If the guy is only running 35's with a weakass 4banger, then a 14b or even a 60 is rediculous. The toy axle would be about perfect for that setup...

and a waggy 44 would fit nicely up front, easily matched gear ratios, and the bolt patern is the same.

I've got a set of mid-80's Waggy 44's that are 6 lug, not 5.

Braxton's rignt 44's would be a better option than 60/14 for a small rig w/ a 4 banger.

You're completely correct....it's the FRONT axle that'll kill your budget! LOL!

But I wasn't trying to debate the relative merits of a D60 or 14bolt compared to the Toyota axle, or even which would work better for his particular application. I was simply commenting on THIS statement he made:

Ideally I would get a D60 or 14 Bolt, but I haven't been able to find many for cheap.

What I posted was simply information telling him that those axles *ARE* easy to find cheap.

:D

I have 4.0 6 cyl, and I am trying to get above the 35 tire range. I will hit the jy's and see what I can find. Thanks for the info.
