: Solid axle Kick
jp008 01-16-2002, 07:43 PM Well since last fall this project has been going on. BB88 and myself have been working on this project as well as a local 4x4 shop.
1989 Sidekick with Toy axles and Wrangler springs. He was looking at a few different options, Sky's being one of those. BB got a good price at this 4x4/fab shop and since they were local he went with them.

zuk88 01-16-2002, 09:33 PM Now that's a 'KICK, I've thought of this kind of a project myself but with a 4 door. Gotta finish the first project before I start another:smokin:
jp008 01-16-2002, 09:48 PM Thanks Zuk...:D
I'll post pics of the steering set-up for you as soon as it is done. This might give you some ideas of your own so you can finish yours.
A 4 door would be Saaweeeeet.
zuk88 01-16-2002, 10:43 PM I'm going with the Roadless Gear crossover steering. Problem solved:p

zuk88 01-16-2002, 10:47 PM I'll still need front end pics for when I get that 4 door I've been thinking about:D
0ILBURNER 01-17-2002, 06:26 AM Now THAT'S something ya don't see every day!
Rig looks Good Jim! Have you got to drive it yet??
MudKick 01-17-2002, 07:34 AM How do you guys post pictures here?
My Sidekick has a Scout D44 with coils setup. The steereeing works like a charm. The whole setup is great. The truck drives like a caddilac on the trail but did not lose its hiway manners. I'd like to share some pictures, see what you thinkk...

You have to pay $20 a year to post pictures to this server, or if you have your own website you can put links to your own pictures in your message.
Azrckcrawler 01-17-2002, 07:54 AM Oh yeah, that's the best looking conversion I have seen so far. Saw one with the Calmini lift kit (IFS) on it down at 4 Wheeler Supply, can't imagine spending that kind of dough and only being able to put 31's on it.

Unfortunatly it is not mine :( bb88 (brett) is the owner of this fine rig and there are still a few thing left to do to it before it hits the road Ummmm.....dirt and rocks.
I'll post when the off-road pics get shot
I promise the graphics are going away real soon!!
zuk88 01-17-2002, 06:10 PM There are some rocks on the Rubicon near Spider Lake that can remove those stickers for you real quick.:D
 now that's a thought ! a little far away though~~~~but then there is that narrow pass down at little Moab HHhhuuUUMMM....................................... ....
jp008 01-17-2002, 07:18 PM Hey Gozuki,
Thanks for putting the pic up on the board. :D
twistedmetal 01-17-2002, 07:32 PM Thanks for the inspiration. I have to get a guys Jeep out of my garage so I can start on my 'Kick. I'll be running 60's front and rear cut down 5" making them 63 inchers. spool in the rear, 35 spline shafts throughout, an injected 4.3, TH350, and either an Atlas II, or a Toy case with the 4.7 gears. Haven't decided yet. I'll retain a form of the 3 link in the rear, and some 3" Ford springs up front. Problem is, I gotta have it operational by May! It took me 6 years to dial in my old Scout!
  HOLY $HIT that sounds like a project:smokin:

Mudkick asked me to post these images for everyone to have a gander at his TracKick with Dana 44s front and rear.
This looks awesome and is an inspiration for me to restart my on again off again solid axle LWB Sidekick (yeah right). :)

jp008 01-23-2002, 07:42 PM GREAT pics mud. That looks good. Are you still running the kick t-case? I like it.:D
:flipoff2: that looks real good mudkick:flipoff2: that's where I wanted mine to sit ~but it ended up a little taller~also tell me about your drive train~do you still have slipyokes on t-case?
MudKick 01-24-2002, 07:58 AM First off, :flipoff2: Oilburner and:flipoff2: mudlite, from all the Newbies out there!
...just kidding, howbout, :flipoff2: to all of us stinking nebies, well, while I'm at it :flipoff2: to everyone. It's all good....
jp008 and bb88 I an running stock TC and driveshaft. The TC was dropped 1 inch to eliminate a bit of the driveline vibe on hiwy speeds.:smokin:
UZI 9mm 01-24-2002, 08:19 AM pretty cool looking there dude.
for a stinkin' newbie :flipoff2:
HELLO, I'M JOKING:D
Hey Mudkick,
When you are ready to wheel that thing post on bc attention Rhys, Tman, Shogunator or Jayzuk and we'll take you a couple of places to "TEST" your machine out. Paul can attest to what I'm talking about and it ain't eagle ridge. I know another guy who might be doing something similar in a little bit. He claims he is going to do it himself bt real friends don't let friends drive junk.
Anywho I just thought I'd extend the offer.
later,
Dave
aka Shogunator:flipoff2:
Rocky Road 01-24-2002, 01:10 PM Daaayyyaaaammmmn..... you guys are getting me psyched.
I've got some D44's with 35's on that I'm dropping into my 2door sidekick. Cool to check out some shots of how it'll loook when done.
I just gotta whip up some free time to get this thing finished up!
MudKick 01-24-2002, 01:16 PM Hey dumb, this thing has been tested already, pretty good. But thanx for the invite, I'll take you up on it. However, when was the last time you've been to Eagle? With all the snow up there now on some days this trail could be much harder then other, "hard" trails are on daily basis. And yes I've mad it there of course...

From what I can tell from the photos of the Kick and a Shaffer coil kit they look to be very similar in execution. Maybe get a Shaffer kit out of your shelf stock and fangle it on to your Sidekick.
Watch the cross member under the engine for axle clearance. I ended up cutting mine out to keep the truck lower. I figure a custom low profile x-member is in order.
Rocky Road 01-24-2002, 03:39 PM I'm pulling the body off the frame for easier access to work on the suspension and drivetrain anyway. Hacking out a crossmember won't pose any problems.
Moab being so early this year is my only problem.
Mudkick,
Your rig is NICE!:) Are those Scout 44's? Very well done!
Nice truck but your gonna have to get rid of that :rainbow: chrome fender trim and get a spare tire that will actually serve a purpose on the back of the truck. I saw the truck when it was being built at Reo's shop. Would like to see how it performs, it looks really well built. I heard you paid a pretty penny for all that work too! Cheers!

Oh I know the feeling. I've still gotta do t-case gears and replace the head on my Blue zuk. I just finished the clutch tonight and will start on the head tomorrow.
Glenn if you need help let me know I'll buzz on up and give you a hand. (weekends only though)
MudKick 01-25-2002, 07:11 AM CSR: Those arew the scout D44's and swiftsammi, no, I am not getting rid of my :rainbow: fendrer trim:flipoff2: . I like it .
The projest was costly, so the custum bumper with the tire carrier will have to wait.
jp008 01-25-2002, 11:24 AM Costly or not, it still looks good mud-kick.
zukikid 01-25-2002, 11:49 AM nooooooooo...must not start thinking tracker.....must focus on sammy i shouldn't be spending so much money on....must not let the wheels start turning ....fight it man, fight it !!!!
ok now am screwed...i have to own a tracker to build ....thanks man... its all your fault
zukikid
twistedmetal 01-25-2002, 01:29 PM Hey Mudkick, lookin' really sweet. Probably the most proportionately set-up 'Kick I've seen. Just the right height, perfect tire size. After I get my "kick project under way, I'd be more than happy to help you out on the bumper situation. I won't go to the local Blockbuster without a fulsize spare, so After I get my bumper built to carry a 36"SX and 5 gallons of gas, I'd be happy to build you one too. But you're gonna HAVE to lose the factory plastic ones! The trim can stay, I'm diggin' it! PM me, or let me know if you are interested.
flexlarson 01-28-2002, 10:14 AM Twisted you best be gettin busy on that kick. Always workin on that ole jeep in the garage. GET BUSY
See ya
twistedmetal 01-28-2002, 07:28 PM Yeah, no $hit. I can't wait to see that rusty POS go down the road. But, hey that POS is gonna pay for my POS!

C'mon Glen, shouldn't take you too long! I bolted int he whole conversion on a saturday and had it don't and went for a night run on the sunday!
Sure was glad to have the extra flex down in Moab, Rubicon will be the next test for it. :skull:
I'll try and get some pictures scanned sometime and post them up here of the setup I've been running for the last two years or so. Would like to upgrade soem of the stuff in the future (like jonny joints for the rod ends etc) just for rebuildibility etc. At the time cost was the main factor though.
So just how many solid axled sidekick/trackers are there out and on the trails now? Seems to be a growing trend!

92 Sidekick (SAS 6", 31's, armor, etc...)
Kicker_92 03-06-2002, 10:26 PM Well, after running this setup for about the last two year managed to get a couple pics scanned in. Yeah, I know it doesn't flex much, but enough for the trails I run...
