Can a am/fm radio work off of a CB antenna? I have always wondered. Just think of great reception you would get! :)

I was just checking out www.cbradiousa.com and the FAQ.
While I haven't done it, I would like to. The FAQ said you need a splitter off of the CB antenna. I am sick of reading about CB's right now though, so if you find out anything, post it up. :D

There is no reason it wouldn't work, but when it comes to antennas bigger is not nessesarily better. The length of an antenna is proportional to the frequency it works best at. That's why your cel phone antenna is only a couple of inches long.
If you are going to use the same antenna on your radio as you do on your CB, your FM radio is going to go poof when you key your transmitter. You would need a device called a duplexer to isolate the FM from the CB

The answer to your question is yes. There is an adapter that you buy that your stereo and CB plug into, and from there you run your antenna cable (RG-58U or RG-8U) out to your antenna. Take a look at Firestick.com or Wilson.com I can't remember where I saw them, but they are out there.

Hey JeepGal did you find it? I can't remember where I saw it, but if you find it post up where becauseI think I'll end up getting one myself for my mudder. Those adapters only work with antennas that are rated for the frequency bands that AM, FM, USB, LSB, and CB channels use. If you buy a new antenna, it will list on the package what frequency ranges it will cover. I think any fiberglass stick antenna will work with it.

I did it. It works like crap. :(

The radios are matched for the stock style antennas.

Don't take my word for it though, try it yourself the adapter is only a few bucks. It may work better with an FM booster as well.
