i am starting to collect all information i can
find to swap dana 44 axles from a 77 scout onto
my gmc s15 . i have the whole scout, so i should
have most of the main parts needed. i am looking
for information as far as mating the steering to
my gear box or should i install the scout box?
my scout steering box is nonpower, so would it
be better to find a power steering unit. the
next thing would be the transfer case adapting to my 700r4 tranny , do they make an adapter or do
i need to use another transfer case ? . i will
be installing the dana44 rear in my truck also.
is there anything there to change ? if i use the
scout trnsfer case then the cone would come with it and make an easy hook-up to the scout rear ,
is this true ? . last but not least would be brake
line hook-ups , what is involved there? is there
anyone out there who has done this swap ?
thanks for any help ......

whats going on volp haven't talk to you in a while.

as far as you tcase Advance adapters will have the adapter you need. The rear drive shaft have have to be shorted of lengthen epend on how it sit on the springs when the conversion is done. Brake lines you will want o get longet ones from either a K5 blzer or a ford f150 4x4. either of those are plenty long enough for th swap. iam going to use the ford lines cause they are alittle bit longer than the chevy ones. but either shoould hook up fine. I have some pics on my puter of the different mounts you will need to fabricate so if you wan them let me know i'll email them to you.

depends on what t-case it is, if its a dana 20, then there is an adapter made, the front 44 from a scout probably isn't the best choice though, the caster is hard to adjust, as far as steering goes, i would try to find a flat top knuckle for the passenger side and set up a true crossover steering set up, there are many many write ups about this

hey volp... glad to see you are getting underway. Use your stock steering box. its a saginaw unit, the same powersteering gear that is used on scouts anyways, so pitman arms will match up. As for the front axle, you may want to get a different one to match up to your transfer case... its way easier than changing out the T case and having to order a $500 adapter, etc etc. I used a Scout 44 in the rear when I did my swap, and I like it a lot, I took out the E brake stuff b/c I will be doing a line lock soon. Brake lines are good ole' 3/16" so it should match up to the s- truck fine. HTH, and good luck with the swap

hey skip , i guess i could have posted this on the
s10, but i was looking for some people who had already tried this amazing stunt. i will e-mail you or im you and we can discuss it ,
hey aggielr and fullreversal :
the transfer case is a dana 20 . the reason i am
going this route is the fact that i have a
complete donar scout with all the parts . and
it was only $150. so i am going to try and use everything out of it. i know the adapter is expensive but if that is the only part i need to
buy then it wont be that bad . i should assume that the e-brake system and not be switched over?
if so then i will go with a line lock myself
( thats what i use on my sandrail )

thanks guys
