465. Only cause i am about to have two of em. Just my opinion they are prolly some of the toughest trannys.

i would venture a stab that they are in the same ballpark as far as strength goes, but the 465 may be a little stronger. the 4500 has 5th over, which is cool...but they are $$$. I've also heard about the 5th gear in the 4500 being weak and having to be "fixed" but this is hearsay. My vote goes to the 465.

sm465's are the best manual trannys imo, they are tough as hell and cheap. but no od

I had a 465, now have a 4500. Id say 4500. The 5th gear, you can upgrade it, its just a nut on the back so it doesnt come off, no big deal. They hold up to the Cummins, ive seen broke inputs and gears before ive never seen a broken 5th gear.

I would say the 92-94 version of the nv. It has a first gear really close to the 465 plus the o/d. The setup of the nv is awfully close to that of a true truck tranny with tapered bearings on the shafts, also has caged needles on the gears so no more packing grease and hoping they don't fall out. I've gotten the nv in my dually done now wished I had done it years ago.
