got the keys from ranger greg to run it and do a report on the status of the trail. real interesting. not much different except for the lack of green, a large boulder in the trail near the bridge, and a tree strung about 7-8 feet over the trail.

the drive into the trail from arrowhead is quite sad. just imagine if your house was the one that didnt burn, driving home everyday through that. any idea when it will be open to the public?

it's down for a year, and i hear they're talking of keeping it closed for another year. new foliage and brush isn't growing in too fast and there are a lot of areas where people can go off trail. i'm debating going to the OHV meeting this wednesday, i probably will. hopefully i'll get the skinny on it.
amazingly i did find a bit of trash. a few beer cans that someone had taken the time to crush but not toss in their rig, and a front lip off of a small car.

Did you ask them if they plan on putting any rocks back in at the creek. It's literally a paved road now

"old fart" from the rockskullz board mentioned that was not in their plans because it would lead way to creating bypasses. seems stupid but logical. he pointed out that holcomb creek the west end has the alternate entrance. away from the creek. thing is i havent been up there yet but from the pics i have seen, you could put a gate keeper of sorts right at the end of the bridge making it nearly impossible to bypass. just some thoughts.

That fire damage is tragic. IMO a lot of that could have been prevented. What a fawkin waist.

Except that prevention is what got us here in the first place ;)

Are those structures houses or are they from the Boy Scout camp? I have never wheeled the area but spent several summers there as a boy scout. :(

JRT would know better then i but i think houses. there are standing houses mixed in with the chimneys and foundations, and on the other side of the road houses are fine.

Houses... but I heard the scout camp went too.
Specifically, they are on the right hand side of Hook Creek about half mile before you get to the entrance to the SBNF.

Some of the few good memories I have left are of that camp. :(
I hope next year I can go up and wheel that area after I get the tonka back together.
