This may sound :rainbow: :rainbow: , but it is nice to have some tunes on the trails, at least when you are driving between obstacles over the root strewn trails. I am about to by a head unit for my Jeep, and thought that I might as well get one that does not skip easily. Anyone have good experience with such a CD player that will fit in a Jeep and is cheap?

I have bee happy with my Pioneer DEh-77 Din and a half unit. Seems to work good. No skippy.

By the way, tunes aren't :rainbow: unless you listen to In Sync.

Personally, for tunes in my trail rig, I'm going the mpeg player with a regular car radio amplifier to drive the speakers. It is a definate no skip thing if you are using memory card type instead of the "mini hard drive" type mpeg players.

For me, since I already have the amp, it should cost me about the same price as a low end CD player:D

My install is going to have the amp completely imbeded/hidden with only a input jack for the mpeg player and maybe a power plug for the mpeg player. The player itself will not be in the vehicle unless I am:p Ultimate in theft protection aside from no tunes:(

MPEG's are movies, I should hope you are not watching movies while you are driving.

If you want a CD player that will NEVER skip, fork out some cash, cause you ain't gonna get squat at K-Mart or Wal-Mart :)

I didn't go supah-high-dollah but I did spend @ $300- on my Panasonic CQ-DPG600EUC.

It has NEVER skipped. Rubber-lined volume knob and large buttons. My bro rolled his Toy END_OVER while playing a CD and it never skipped. Kept playing upside down!!! I don't know if Panasonic still makes this model but if they do, get it. It has a ten second memory buffer. BAD_AZZ!!!!

Just be sure to get that extended warrenty for it. I'm glad I got it on mine because they thing must be full of dust by now. I need to take it in and have it cleaned out because it doesn't eject CD's correctly any more. It also skips due to running dusty trails with no top.

Yup that is what I have too, will not skip once the music starts. Unfortunatly it has been discontinued if you know someone who has a stereo shop there is probably one left on the self as this is not all the bells and whistles head unit, just no skid head unit.

Before I bought mine I did some checking, the rumor I caught was the thing was designed for baja trucks, the driver/nav could take oral notes then convert them to wavs and play them back while running the course. Dunno if it is true or not but I know mine won't skip and your buddy is not the only one who has rolled with one and it kept playing.

I think I spent $250 on mine, it is not an outlandish headunit but not a cheapo either.

i've had sonys kenwoods and pioneers.

sonys pissed me off, they skip when i hit a little bump in the road.

kenwood was okay. it kinda of sucked.

i've had 4 or 5 different pioneers, they never skip no matter how screwed up my cd is. no matter how hard i offroad it doesn't skip. i sound like a sales man for pioneer. but i got one last winter. remote, fold down face and you can put 100 cd titles into it. its da bomb.:flipoff2:

I think you need Welderboy's opinion on this topic. He ran Calrocs with Beasties blasting the whole way. Had a 46 second, no penalty, no skip run while singing.:jester:

yep pioneer with the fold down face! Never had any problems with it. It plays CDs my computer and other players won't play. Also the fold down face keeps the dust out.

I got one of those to. You have to try dam hard to make it skip. I do have to tear it apart once a year & clean it out though with some of that air in a can because the cd player gets full of dirt & quits working. I got lucky & found one at a sound shop, this was a couple years ago right after they discontinued them.
