I want to see how wide your TLC looks because i am thinking of getting my axels cut down. I really want to get them cut to 65" but my offset rear won't let me

so i want to see what 62" looks like

Oh yeah, those are stock axles with 3.5 inch back spacing on the rims. Soon to be 2 inch back spacing.

For the time being yeah. Total width with 15/35 swampers on 15x10 rims is about 76 inches wide.

I plan on getting some different axles but I am in the same boat as you with the offset rear end. So I am currently looking for a late 70's early 80's Chevy 3/4 ton donor truck. And just take the motor, tranny, t-case and axles out of it and put em in the cruiser all at once.

did you do a mini truck disk brake conversion? How often you you break birfs. You are running a 2F right. I am going to the junkyard SUN/MON to look for D60's apparently some vans came with offset rears. I might end up just buying a D60 and getting it "made to size" If that doesn't cost too much.

I was gearing up to do the disk brake conversion but decided to save the $$$ and just swap it all over to 3/4 ton.

I am currently running the F motor, SM420 trans and 3 speed case. I love the Motor and tranny for crawling but it's not really highway friendly. But for now it's great. I plan on adding my power steering, and running it that way for the summer which gives me plenty of time to find a good "donor" truck.

Oh yeah, I have yet to break a birfield. :D :D Broken a hub, rear pinion, and some tranny mounts. But that's about it so far.

Hey if you do find a rear 60 that is offset let me know what you pulled it out of. That would be a killer way to go dana 60's right now!

Your look like a really good width. I wanted to go wider but with the offset it is not really a posibility for me.

what else do you know about the D60's in the vans. I have read that some pre 80's D60's had a low spline count and that toy axels are actually stronger than them.

Thanks for all the great info

There are many versions of the D60, some of them are 17 spline....some are 30 spline, these are 35 spline!

I made a mistake earlier, it is the FORD van......

69-74 E350 or E250 Ford vans

Sorry for the confusion...typed too fast :emb2:

Hey metal mender....NICE CRUISER!! Orange is bitchin!
Thanks Glo and the same back to you :D

Also I belive some jeep J series 3/4 ton trucks with quadratrac had an offset D60.
My 60 came from an 82 J 20 non quadratrac and is a centered diff. I cut the spindles, bored them for 1.5 35 spline axles and cut the tubes to to get 63" wms distance.
I should have it welded this weekend, but I am thinking about cutting the housing something like currie does to give more clearance with the pinion turned up.
decisions decisions

so are you happy with your width, if not how would you change it?

what tires do you run size, model, bias vs radial, are you satisfied?

thanks everyone for all the great info
