That's even better than the website pics, those are perty.
What kind of press tonage do I need with 1/8" steel? Will a HF 20 ton work fine?

Also, I called you Mem. Day (Saturday) and left a message for a TRE taper reamer, do you have any in stock?
Thx, Doug

These look like you can use a electrical knock out cutter to pull the dies through. Is this true? What size holes are in the middle of the dies?
Thanks

so i could use 3/16 plate in places where i would need 1/4 plate if i dimple die it?

TRD
09-09-2004, 09:22 AM
Im not familiar with what an electrical knock out cutter is?

3/16" is probably too much for these dies. 1/8" is about max.

The strength difference depends on how you are using the plate, but potentially.

the electrical knockout cutter is basically 2 round dies, that are pulled together with a bolt. (one is threaded) so you drill a hole where you want the big hole to be. Put the knock out cutter thru the hole tighten then you have a big hole.

basically I think he wants to know how thick of metal could you dimple just using a fine threaded bolt thru the middle of the dies.

AH,

The new dies do not have a hole in the middle, you need to use a press.

How long will these things last(not deform)? What kinda material are these being made out of? Heat treated 4340 or D2 Tool Steel?

These things do last a long time. I have never seen a set deform. They are made from 4140 and case hardened.

Would anyone out there want to go halfers on a set of these?? I don't need/want all seven sizes. I really only want 3/4", 1 1/4", and 1 3/4". I would be willing to pay $175 plus my part of the shipping. If anyone is interested please e-mail me.:smokin:

BTW, PP crew: What tonnage of a ram would you say is required for the 1.75" die to dimple .125" steel?

It looks like the price for the set of 7 went from $395 up to $450 in about six months. What would account for that much of an increase? It certainly can't be the price of steel, since these dies aren't huge structures. Just curious...
